A tire serves various types of services and distance overs its lifespan. Moreover, for the safety and comfort of vehicle occupants, tire performance is critical. An assessment of literatures on tire-related properties that contribute to better safety performance was conducted in this study. The review elaborates on the most discussed topics from the overall reviewed articles. This study highlights the significant characteristics that be further implemented in tires for specific situations or general consumers. It was determined that tire wear is resulted from several factors. Increasing slip angles cause higher abrasion and temperature on tire surface. Modelling of wear rate can be done realistically with computation. From the review, it is also known that knowledge of tire-pavement and/or ice interactions behavior is improving. Semi-empirical methods in simulation of tire and terrain interactions are a promising candidate for use in multi-body dynamic software (MBS) simulation and vehicle simulations. Thermal aging in rubber tires will result in lower tensile strength. Production of tire wear particles increase 2–3 fold with abrasion from increased slip angles. Carbon back type N220 possess the best tensile, tear, and conductivity qualities. Overall, not much information was able to be obtained with regards to types of tires. Nonetheless research on tire safety performance should be extended so that each of tire component can be continuously improved to enhance tire safety criteria, particularly among the less discussed areas, such as commercial vehicle tires. 

A Review on Automotive Tires Significant Characteristic Identification for General Consumers

Tire Road and Wear Particles are a major source of microplastic emissions. Tire and Road Wear Particles are important to study and understand as there are alarming amounts found in various environments. Currently, Tire and Road Wear Particles compared to other microplastics are not studied as rigorously in literature but are becoming a larger field of study due to their impact on emissions control. Tire Road and Wear Particles are commonly found as Styrene Butadiene Rubber Butadiene Rubber, and Natural Rubber To understand and quantify tire wear, experimental and mathematical models are developed to estimate tire wear. Tire wear can be measured experimentally using semi-empirical models, predetermined data, and sensor technologies. Tire wear is also measured mathematically using different modeling approaches and different friction models. This review discusses different and popular methodologies for estimating tire wear through experimental and simulated environments. Furthermore, discusses a review of the literature regarding tire wear emissions and its impact on the environment. Finally, it is evident that an accurate simulated tire wear model can be developed in the future alongside a driver model to predict tire wear emissions.

The road surface and the tread pattern structures directly affect the wear performance of aircraft tire, especially for lateral sliding conditions. In this paper, wear tests of tread block with different draft angles and root radiuses, different interfaces, and different slip angles were carried out, and combined with the simulation, the effects of tread groove structure and slip angle on the wear mechanism were analyzed. Results indicated that the influences of draft angle were greater than the root radius; the wear geometry of the tread block decreased when the draft angle increased in the range of 0° to 15°, but for the root radius, the wear geometry of each sample was similar to a strip shape. A considerable material loss occurred at the front edge when the slip angle increased, and the slip angle was larger in the range of 0° to 45°. Combined with the simulation and wear test, fatigue wear and abrasive wear of the slide surface are dominant factors when considering the effects of tread groove structure and slip angle, and both front edges of the tread blocks roll up repeatedly; the coefficient decreases with the increase in load when the cement concrete pavement interface is dry, but for a wet interface, the coefficient decreases softly.

The comprehensive tire abrasion testing machine has the advantages that the tire is internally tangent to the road surface, the volume is small, the production cost and the usage cost are low, and the testing results are accurate.
