Epstein-barr virus (EBV)-encoded BARF1 gene is expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and EBV-associated gastric carcinoma tissues in the absence of lytic gene expression
Eri Seto,Lixin Yang,Jaap M. Middeldorp,Tzung-Shiahn Sheen,Jen-Yan Chen,Masashi Fukayama,Yoshito Eizuru,Tadamasa Ooka,Kenzo Takada +8 more
TL;DR: The present findings indicate that BARf1 is expressed in NPC and EBV‐positive gastric carcinoma tissues as a latent gene and suggest that BARF1 plays a role in the pathogenesis of these malignancies.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded RNA promotes growth of EBV-infected T cells through interleukin-9 induction.
TL;DR: It is suggested that IL-9 induced by EBV-encoded small RNA acts as an autocrine growth factor forEBV-infected T cells in vivo and directly affects the pathogenesis of EBv-associated T-cell diseases.

Epstein-Barr virus infection of human natural killer cell lines and peripheral blood natural killer cells.
Yasushi Isobe,Koichi Sugimoto,Lixin Yang,Kenji Tamayose,Motoki Egashira,Takako Kaneko,Kenzo Takada,Kazuo Oshimi +7 more
TL;DR: In vitro EBV infection of human NK cells and establishment of EBV-carrying NK clones are reported, which should contribute to elucidate the role ofEBV in the development of NK cell neoplasms.
Roles of Epstein-Barr virus glycoproteins gp350 and gp25 in the infection of human epithelial cells
TL;DR: Results indicate the existence of two distinct pathways in EBV infection of epithelial cells, agp350-dependent pathway and a gp350-independent pathway, and that gp25 can play a role in the infection of some epithelial Cells.

Rheumatoid factors induce signaling from B cells, leading to Epstein-Barr virus and B-cell activation
Lixin Yang,Masayuki Hakoda,Kazuya Iwabuchi,Tsuyoshi Takeda,Takao Koike,Naoyuki Kamatani,Kenzo Takada +6 more
TL;DR: The present findings imply a possible role for RFs as EBV and B-cell activators, as well as autoantibodies directed against the Fc portion of IgG, in rheumatoid arthritis.
