Response of anaerobic granular sludge to single-wall carbon nanotube exposure.
TL;DR: The response of methanogenic sludge exposed to SWCNTs in anaerobic digestion process was investigated and results show that SWC NTs, at a concentration up to 1000 mg/L, had no significant impact on the maximum methane yield.

Impact of zero-valent iron nanoparticles on the activity of anaerobic granular sludge: From macroscopic to microcosmic investigation
TL;DR: The microscopic analysis indicated that nZVI particles were mainly adsorbed on the surface of AGS in the form of iron oxides aggregation without entering into the interior of the granule, protecting most cells from contact damage, thus further weakening the toxicity of nZ VI to anaerobic microorganisms.

Toxic effects of imidazolium-based ionic liquids on Caenorhabditis elegans: The role of reactive oxygen species
TL;DR: The results suggest that ROS play an important role in IL-induced toxicity in Caenorhabditis elegans, and the addition of 0.5% dimethyl sulfoxide, which acts as a radical scavenger, remarkably rescued the lethality of C. elegans and significantly decreased the ROS level.

Light-driven microbial dissimilatory electron transfer to hematite
Dao-Bo Li,Yuan-Yuan Cheng,Ling-Li Li,Wen-Wei Li,Yu-Xi Huang,Dan-Ni Pei,Zhong-Hua Tong,Yang Mu,Han-Qing Yu +8 more
TL;DR: Results prove a direct mechanism behind the DMRM respiration driven by photo-induced charge separation in semiconductive acceptors and also imply new opportunities to design photo-bioelectronic devices with living cells as a catalyst.

Insights into enhanced current generation of an osmotic microbial fuel cell under membrane fouling condition
Xian-Zheng Zhu,Xian-Zheng Zhu,Feng Zhang,Wen-Wei Li,Jie Li,Ling-Li Li,Han-Qing Yu,Min-Sheng Huang,Tian-Yin Huang +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors found that the current generation of an OsMFC increased upon membrane fouling despite of the loss of water flux, and the internal resistance decreased relative to the pristine membrane conditions.
