In 2011, with the successful isolation of Ti3C2, a door of 2D layered MXene has been opened and received growing attention from researchers. MXene refers to a family of two-dimensional (2D) materials made up of atomic layers of the transition metal, carbide, nitrides, or carbonitrides. Given the large surface area, adjustable surface terminal groups, and excellent conductivity of MXene, it has shown exciting potential in photocatalysis, energy conversion, and many other fields. Among many 2D MXene, Ti3C2 was the most studied for its availability, low cost, facile modification procedure, and outstanding electronic properties. In previous investigations, Ti3C2 has shown huge potential in the photocatalysis area. Ti3C2 in a photocatalysis system can enhance the separation of photoinduced electrons and holes, reduce charge recombination, and thus improve the photocatalysis performance in many systems. To adjust the performance of Ti3C2 in different applications, the properties of Ti3C2 including morphology, structures, and stability are tunable by different post-processing method in the hybridized materials. In this review, an all-around understanding of the fabrication and modification methods of Ti3C2 and their connection to photocatalytic applications of Ti3C2 MXene based materials are presented. Moreover, a summary and our perspectives of Ti3C2 are given for further investigation.

Ti3C2 2D MXene: Recent Progress and Perspectives in Photocatalysis.

Organophosphate compounds are ubiquitously employed as agricultural pesticides and maintained as chemical warfare agents by several nations. These compounds are highly toxic, show environmental persistence and accumulation, and contribute to numerous cases of poisoning and death each year. While their use as weapons of mass destruction is rare, these never fully disappear into obscurity as they continue to be tools of fear and control by governments and terrorist organizations. Beyond weaponization, their wide-scale dissemination as agricultural products has led to environmental accumulation and intoxication of soil and water across the globe. Therefore, there is a dire need for rapid and safe agents for environmental bioremediation, personal decontamination, and as therapeutic detoxicants. Organophosphate hydrolyzing enzymes are emerging as appealing targets to satisfy decontamination needs owing to their ability to hydrolyze both pesticides and nerve agents using biologically-derived materials safe for both the environment and the individual. As the release of genetically modified organisms is not widely accepted practice, researchers are exploring alternative strategies of organophosphate bioremediation that focus on cell-free enzyme systems. In this review, we first discuss several of the more prevalent organophosphorus hydrolyzing enzymes along with research and engineering efforts that have led to an enhancement in their activity, substrate tolerance, and stability. In the later half we focus on advances achieved through research focusing on enhancing the catalytic activity and stability of phosphotriesterase, a model organophosphate hydrolase, using various approaches such as nanoparticle display, DNA scaffolding, and outer membrane vesicle encapsulation.

Enzymatic Bioremediation of Organophosphate Compounds-Progress and Remaining Challenges.

This review (with 99 refs.) summarizes the progress that has been made in colorimetric (i.e. spectrophotometric) determination of organophosphate pesticides (OPPs) using gold and silver nanoparticles (NPs). Following an introduction into the field, a first large section covers the types and functions of organophosphate pesticides. Methods for colorimetric (spectrophotometric) measurements including RGB techniques are discussed next. A further section covers the characteristic features of gold and silver-based NPs. Syntheses and modifications of metal NPs are covered in section 5. This is followed by overviews on enzyme inhibition-based assays, aptamer-based assays and chemical (non-enzymatic) assays, and a discussion of specific features of colorimetric assays. Several Tables are presented that give an overview on the wealth of methods and materials. A concluding section addresses current challenges and discusses potential future trends and opportunities.

A review on colorimetric methods for determination of organophosphate pesticides using gold and silver nanoparticles

The development of nanotechnology promotes the progress of analytical methods, especially gold nanomaterials, which have attracted much interest due to their unique optical properties. As they display different colors depending on their size, shape and state of aggregation, it provides excellent platforms for the development of colorimetric sensors in chemical and biological field. For better understanding the significant role of gold nanomaterials in modern science, it becomes increasing necessary to summarize a review on colorimetric application of gold nanomaterials in sensing. In this review, differently, it proceed from four main strategies, centers on different form of gold nanomaterials, and revolves around its development in the chemical and biological field with a wide range of applications. Finally, this review discusses the main disadvantages of the present and the promising prospects of gold nanomaterials as colorimetric sensors. It will be of significant benefit to further facilitate the design of novel colorimetric sensors.

Nanomaterial-based immunosensors for ultrasensitive detection of pesticides/herbicides: Current status and perspectives.

Antibiotic residues in food should be concerned seriously because they constitute potential threats to human health. The rapid and accurate determination of antibiotic residues in food must be a tough challenge due to the large number of interfering substances in food matrices. However, the traditional sample preparation methods are not only time-consuming and laborious, but also require many toxic organic solvents. This is why new preparation methods need to be developed to meet new analysis needs. A quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe preparation technique, known as QuEChERS, was introduced in 2003. As its name implies, this technique, combined with LC or GC tandem mass spectrometry, can effectively separate multiple complex compounds in a short time. Initially, QuEChERS was widely used to analyze pesticide residues in food. Nevertheless, more and more researchers began to apply the QuEChERS technique to extract other compounds with various complex matrices in recent years, and the advantages of high efficiency and good results has once again proved the potential of this technique. In this paper, the development and application of QuEChERS for antibiotic residues in food were reviewed, and the research progress on modification and optimization of the QuEChERS methodology in sample treatment, extraction and purification is summarized in detail.

Organophosphorus pesticides analysis has become an increasingly significant research area due to their widespread application and contamination of the environment. With the worsening of environmental contamination, the control of pesticides is important to both human health and environment protection. Distinct from traditional methods of pesticides detection, application of electrochemical biosensors based on enzyme-functionalized nanostructures in the field of pesticides analysis is promising. This review mainly introduces the recent achievements and problems in biosensors based on enzyme-functionalized nanostructures for organophosphorus pesticides detection, such as efficiency and high sensitivity, and meanwhile the problem of practicability is also discussed.

Current progress in biosensors for organophosphorus pesticides based on enzyme functionalized nanostructures: a review.

Butralin is widely used to control single-leaf weeds and some dicotyledons. The application of butralin in the environment may cause residue beyond regulation criteria and residual toxicity. Therefore, it is important to detect and supervise the dissipation behavior of butralin in edible raw food and in the environment. The aim of this study was to monitor butralin in peanuts and soil under farmland conditions and examine the likely dietary risk assessment of butralin for Chinese people on the basis of residual concentrations. A method for the analysis of butralin residue and its dissipation in peanut plants and soil under field conditions was investigated. The results show that an analytical method for the quantization of butralin in peanuts and soil utilizing gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC-ECD) was developed. Standard recovery experiments using three different butralin spiking levels of 0.01, 0.1, and 1.0 mg kg−1 in different samples (i.e., peanut kernels, shell, seedling, stalk, and soil) were conducted. The recoveries of butralin from all matrices ranged from 86 to 108% with relative standard deviations from 3 to 6% (n = 5). The limit of quantification (LOQ) of the method was 0.01 mg kg−1. After storage at − 20 °C for 365 days, the degradation rate of residues of butralin in peanut kernels was less than 30%, which met the storage stability test criteria for pesticide residues in stored commodities of plant origin. The dissipation half-lives of butralin ranged from 4.2 to 6.6 days and 4.6 to 6.6 days in peanut seedlings and soil, respectively, in farmland ecosystems. At the normal harvest time, the final residue concentrations of butralin in peanuts and soil were all below the LOQ. The final total risk quotient (RQ) values were much lower than RQ = 100%, which indicated that the long-run fitness risk associated with butralin residue in different groups of registered crops is correspondingly low for people in China. The current research results could offer guidance for the rational use of butralin and provide data support for the building of maximum residue limits (MRLs) in China.
