Cancer-associated fibroblasts in papillary thyroid carcinoma

Background The association between cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and prognosis of gastrointestinal cancer patients remains controversial. The purpose of the present article is to assess the role of CAFs in gastrointestinal cancer patients by performing a meta-analysis of the clinical trials published in the literature. Methods Several studies were conducted to compare survival between high proportion of CAFs and low proportion of CAFs in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Search strategies were performed in PubMed, EMBASE, Medline and the Cochrane Library database. Methodological quality was assessed with the Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale (NOS). Results Among 3,763 patients enrolled in 18 studies, the pooled hazard ratio (HR) 1.64 (95% CI, 1.43 to 1.87; P<0.001) for overall survival (OS) indicated that a high proportion of CAFs was associated with shorter OS. Among 3,137 patients in 7 studies, the pooled HR 2.56 (95% CI, 1.55 to 4.22, P<0.001) for disease-free survival (DFS) exhibited that a high proportion of CAFs was associated with higher risk of recurrence. The subgroup analyses based on different tumor types showed consistent results. CAFs had no correlation with age, gender, tumor localization, TNM stage, tumor grade, and tumor type. Conclusions The meta-analysis indicates that high proportion of CAFs is a valuable predictor of the prognosis in gastrointestinal cancer patients, and it may provide new ideas for targeted therapy in gastrointestinal cancer patients.

Immunohistochemical detection of cancer-associated fibroblasts in gastrointestinal cancer as a potential prognostic biomarker of survival: meta-analysis

Objective To systematically evaluate the relationship between cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of gastric cancer, so as to provide new directions and clinical evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library to identify studies on the correlation between tumor-associated fibroblasts and the diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer. Two researchers screened the literature independently to extract data, evaluated the quality of the included studies, and used the Review Manager 5.4 software to perform a meta-analysis. Results A total of 14 studies involving a total of 2,703 patients were included. The meta-analysis results showed that high expression of CAFs was associated with stage III–IV gastric cancer (relative risk ratio [RR]=1.59; 95% confidence interval [CI]: [1.24–2.04]; P=0.0003), lymph node metastasis (RR=1.51; 95% CI: [1.23–1.87]; P=0.0001), serosal infiltration (RR=1.56, 95% CI: [1.24–1.95]; P=0.0001), diffuse and mixed types in Lauren classification (RR=1.43; 95% CI: [1.18–1.74]; P=0.0003), vascular invasion (RR=1.99; 95% CI: [1.26–3.14]; P=0.003), and overall survival (hazard ratio [HR]=1.38; 95% CI: [1.22–1.56]; P<0.00001). However, the high expression of CAFs was not significantly correlated with poorly differentiated gastric cancer (RR=1.03; 95% CI: [0.96–1.10]; P=0.45) and gastric cancer with tumor diameter >5 cm (RR=1.34; 95% CI: [0.98–1.83]; P=0.07). Conclusion The findings of this meta-analysis demonstrated that high expression of CAFs is closely associated with the traditional pathological indicators related to poor prognosis in gastric cancer, and is a valuable prognostic factor in this setting. Cancer-associated fibroblasts, and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of gastric cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Gastric cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the epithelium of the gastric mucosa. It is the result of a combination of multiple factors, but the current research has not yet clarified its pathogenesis, so further research and exploration are needed. This article is mainly based on the meta-analysis of the improvement of gastrointestinal tumor-related symptoms and prognosis based on medical care and exercise intervention. The control group followed routine care after enrollment. In addition to routine care, patients in the intervention group exercised through assessment, formulation of exercise prescriptions, implementation of supervision, and adjustment. By viewing the subjects' physical examination reports, determine their blood routine, urine routine, blood lipids, blood sugar, liver and kidney function, and electrocardiogram examination. In this experiment, dual-contrast ultrasound in each T staging was greater than 0.8, indicating that the diagnostic method is very accurate in the preoperative diagnosis of gastric cancer T staging. The results show that exercise intervention can improve the pain of patients with gastrointestinal tumors after chemotherapy, relieve cancer-induced fatigue, and improve the quality of life.

Meta-Analysis on the Improvement of Symptoms and Prognosis of Gastrointestinal Tumors Based on Medical Care and Exercise Intervention.

Aim To evaluate the role of Ga-68 fibroblast activation protein inhibitor 04 PET/computed tomography (FAPI) in colorectal cancers (CRCs) in terms of diagnostic accuracy and impact on clinical management. FAPI is compared with FDG PET/CT and conventional imaging in staging, restaging, recurrence detection, and response evaluation of CRC. Methods Twenty-nine consecutive patients of histopathologically confirmed primary or relapsed CRC were included in the study. Patients who underwent FAPI PET/CT along with either FDG PET/CT or conventional imaging were included. Primary lesions, recurrence sites, lymph nodes, and metastatic lesions were recorded on all the scans. Maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) was measured from both primary and metastatic lesions. Results The sensitivity of FAPI in primary and recurrence detection is 100% compared to 88% for FDG/conventional imaging. The overall sensitivity of FAPI stands at 98% with accuracy at 95% whereas for FDG/conventional imaging the sensitivity and accuracy are 78% and 77%, respectively, with P < 0.002. Significant difference was noted in the detection of peritoneal metastasis (96% vs. 66%). Conclusion FAPI PET/CT shows better sensitivity and accuracy in the evaluation of CRCs, especially in peritoneal disease compared to FDG PET/CT and conventional imaging. FAPI has the potential to replace FDG in CRCs.
