The beam-hopping (BH) technology applied to low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication networks is a superior choice, but the long transmission delay partly caused by data packets waiting in the queue of satellite transponders will seriously affect the user experience. To shorten the packet queueing delay, in this paper, we propose an optimization method of dynamic beam position division for LEO BH satellite communication systems. Firstly, we analyze the packet queueing delay problem in BH satellites to find out the factors related to the queueing delay, and we find that the number of beam positions is negatively correlated with the queueing delay. Then, we turn the beam position division problem into a $p$ -center problem to try to cover all users with the least number of beam positions. The beam positions among the footprint of LEO satellites are determined dynamically by the user distribution and the traffic distribution. Finally, the performance evaluation of the proposed optimization method is carried out in real-time and the simulation shows that the beam position division optimized system we proposed can shorten the queueing delay up to 40% compare to the benchmark system without sacrificing throughput.

Optimization Method of Dynamic Beam Position for LEO Beam-Hopping Satellite Communication Systems

Satellite communication system has received extensive attention due to its authoritative coverage and communication capabilities. With the increasing demand for satellite communication system capacity and the continuous consumption of spectrum resources, multi-beam satellite communication systems have been proposed. However, due to the high cost of transmitters, researchers have proposed beam hopping technology. Multi-beam satellites use fewer beams to cover the entire area through time-division multiplexing method to achieve beam hopping. Due to the different spatial and temporal distribution of ground users, the traffic demand between ground cells is unbalanced. Based on the unevenly distributed service requests, this paper studies the dynamic beam hopping method to improve resource utilization based on genetic algorithm (GA). Genetic algorithm adaptively adjusts the search space in the process of finding the optimal solution and is an efficient and parallel method that can obtain the optimal global solution. On this basis, this paper also applies a multi-action selection method based on time-division multiplexing, which effectively reduces the complexity of the algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve intelligent beam hopping to meet user needs and can effectively improve system performance.

Dynamic Beam Hopping of Multi-beam Satellite Based on Genetic Algorithm

The application of beam-hopping technology to low earth orbit satellites can effectively achieve flexible allocation and efficient utilization of on-board resources. Considering that the power resources on low earth orbit satellites are limited, the electromagnetic environment is complex and changeable, and the terminal distribution and service requirements are highly dynamic. We established the service model, service priority model and multibeam resource scheduling model under the constraints of beam bandwidth, on-board power, service priorities, etc. To solve the catastrophic problem of a large solution space in the resource scheduling model and to improve the convergence of the algorithm, we propose an enhanced artificial bee colony algorithm. The optimization strategy improves the process of population initialization, solution updates, and search for the global optimal solution. The simulation results show that under the constraints of cochannel interference and on-board resource utilization, the algorithm always converges to the objective function at the fastest speed, which proves that the algorithm has high applicability to the high dynamic characteristics of LEO satellites. In addition, the algorithm can obtain the global optimal solution, and thus, it can ensure the fairness of resource allocation and the effectiveness of service completion.

Dynamic Beam Scheduling of Multibeam Low Earth Orbit Satellites Based on an Enhanced Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Multi-beam satellite communication systems are promising architectures in the future. A packet is transmitted by multi-satellite and multi-beam cooperatively, which can provide efficient spectrum utilization, improve system throughput, and guarantee Quality of Services (QoS). In multi-beam satellite communication systems, multi-layer and multi-dimensional radio resources change dynamically, which leads to the discontinuity of optimal resources and the lack of mapping balance between packets and radio resources. To deal with these problems, we propose a cross-layer and cross-dimension radio resources optimization model based on the weighted discrete firefly algorithm and an adaptive packet segmentation scheme based on the irregular gradient algorithm. The cross-layer and cross-dimension radio resources optimization model based on the weighted discrete firefly algorithm simulates cross-layer and cross-dimension optimization for the high-dynamic and multi-dimensional radio resources by considering the channel state information (CSI) and QoS in the multi-beam satellite communication system. The optimal resources are taken as the weight of irregular gradient algorithm to segment packets and map packets to radio resources, which can realize the mapping balance between packets and radio resources and ensure the efficiency and reliability of communication. The simulations show that the new transmission scheme improves the normalized system throughput and user satisfaction index by 18.7% and 6.2%, respectively.

A Multi-Beam Satellite Cooperative Transmission Scheme Based on Resources Optimization and Packets Segmentation

Traditional fixed resource allocation lacks sufficient flexibility, considering the diversity service requirements of multi-beam satellite systems, this paper proposes a flexible resource allocation mechanism based on "beam-hopping" technology. Firstly, a scheme of uniform clustering is proposed, and the objective function is established to find the optimal cluster size. Secondly, to achieve efficient utilization of resources, the power and time slot combination optimization algorithms are proposed to realize the on-demand allocation. Simulation results show that the proposed method makes the allocated capacity meet the dynamic demand better than traditional methods.

Resource Allocation for Beam-hopping User Downlinks in Multi-beam Satellite System

The invention provides a high-throughput satellite communication system beam hopping method. According to the method, uniform clustering is carried out on total beams according to a business requirement, an objective function is established for the requirement, whether edge beam distance of adjacent clusters is equal to 2R and the same are in working status is monitored, if not, performance satisfies direct calculation of frequency spectrum efficiency, and if yes, an interference avoidance measure is taken, then the frequency spectrum efficiency is calculated, a KKT condition is used for solving of time slot allocation numbers of a closed-form solution, finally, rounding-down is carried out according to values of the closed-form solution, the same is optimized, and optimal capacity allocation is obtained. The method has the advantages that a dynamic requirement of capacity can be satisfied, frequency spectrum efficiency can be improved, and performance decreasing caused by interferenceof the same frequency can also be avoided.
