Adsorptive removal of dyes from aqueous solution onto carbon nanotubes: a review.

The article is a critical review of all aspects of the dissolution of cellulose in NaOH-based aqueous solutions: from the background properties of the solvent itself, to the mechanisms of cellulose fibre swelling and dissolution, solution structure and properties and influence of additives and, finally, to the properties of various materials (fibres, films, aerogels, composites and interpenetrated networks) prepared from these solutions. A historical evolution of the research on this topic is presented. The pros and cons of NaOH-based aqueous solvent for cellulose are summarised and some prospects are suggested.

Cellulose in NaOH–water based solvents: a review

It is essential for textile manufacturing industries to invent new resources, composites and industrial technologies, which are environmentally acceptable and can fulfill the consumer necessities. Therefore, in the recent years, large number of research is focused on optimizing and modifying the fibre manufacturing processes. The recent advances in technology have allowed modifying these processes through various techniques and novel raw materials/additives to manufacture the fibres. Among the various fibre regeneration processes, the NMMO based lyocell process has numerous advantages over conventional rayon fibres and it has great potential to fulfil the environmental and customer requirements. The present review delivers a complete account of all the six types of cellulose regeneration processes namely viscose, cellulose acetate, cuprammonium, LiCl/DMAc as well as lyocell processes based on ionic liquid or NMMO. Additionally, the review considers latest developments with process technology, cellulose swelling and dissolution phenomena, factors affecting the lyocell process and future prospects of the lyocell fibres.

The invention discloses cellulose fibers and a method for producing the same. The method is as follows: firstly, cellulose pulp and ionic liquid are mixed and dissolved according to certain proportion and ionic liquid/fiber spinning stock solution with a cellulose content of between 5 and 25 percent for the mass percent concentration is prepared after deaeration; secondly, the spinning stock solution after deaeration is kept for 2 to 80 hours; strand silk is formed through spinning in air and is driven to enter into spinning bath lotion for washing away the ionic liquid in the strand silk, and then the cellulose fibers are formed. The cellulose fibers adopt green solvent, namely the ionic liquid as solvent and have the advantages of nontoxicity, no volatility and no pollution during the producing process, thereby being favorable for environmental protection and the health of operators; the cellulose fibers are easy to reclaim, thereby realizing cleanliness and green production of the cellulose fibers. Moreover, the performance index of the cellulose fibers produced is superior and the cellulose fibers have the advantages of soft feel, good hydroscopic property and permeability, comfortable wear, good brightness, capability of biodegradation and so on.
