Epigenetic Enhancement of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Signaling Pathway Improves Cognitive Impairments Induced by Isoflurane Exposure in Aged Rats
Mu-Huo Ji,Lin Dong,Min Jia,Wen-Xue Liu,Mingqiang Zhang,Lin-Sha Ju,Jiao-Jiao Yang,Zhongcong Xie,Jian-Jun Yang +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that isoflurane-induced cognitive impairments are associated with the declines in chromatin histone acetylation and the resulting downregulation of BDNF-TrkB signaling pathway and can be rescued by histone deacetylase inhibitor sodium butyrate.

Class I Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor Valproic Acid Reverses Cognitive Deficits in a Mouse Model of Septic Encephalopathy
TL;DR: The findings of the present study suggested chronic treatment with VPA reverses cognitive deficits through mechanisms probably via a reduction in inflammation and apoptosis in the brain, as well as the activation of the BDNF-TrkB signaling pathway in a mouse model of SAE.

Early postoperative cognitive dysfunction is associated with higher cortisol levels in aged patients following hip fracture surgery.
Mu-Huo Ji,Jin-Chun Shen,Rong Gao,Xiao-Yu Liu,Hong-Mei Yuan,Lin Dong,Jing Wu,Shan-Wu Feng,Wei-Yan Li,Jian-Jun Yang +9 more
TL;DR: Higher plasma cortisol levels are associated with POCD in aged patients following hip fracture surgery with spinal anesthesia, and these levels were negatively correlated with mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scores at 7 days postoperatively.

Repeated administration of mirtazapine attenuates oxaliplatin-induced mechanical allodynia and spinal NR2B up-regulation in rats.
Xiaoyu Liu,Guang-Fen Zhang,Lin Dong,Xingming Wang,He-Liang Sun,Jin-Chun Shen,Jin-Chun Shen,Wei-Yan Li,Wei-Yan Li,Jianguo Xu,Jianguo Xu +10 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that oxaliplatin-induced mechanical allodynia is associated with spinal NR2B up-regulation, which may be attenuated by mirtazapine administration, and this mechanism may be reversed by WAY100635 preadministration.

Effects of Combined Levosimendan and Vasopressin on Pulmonary Function in Porcine Septic Shock
TL;DR: Levosimendan combined with arginine vasopressin supplemented with norepinephrine infusion shows potential benefit in sepsis-induced acute lung injury by decreasing mean pulmonary artery pressure and attenuating inflammatory responses in the lung compared to nore Pinephrine infusion alone.
