Polyunsaturated fatty acid receptors, GPR40 and GPR120, are expressed in the hypothalamus and control energy homeostasis and inflammation
Nathalia Romanelli Vicente Dragano,Carina Solon,Albina F. Ramalho,Rodrigo Ferreira de Moura,Daniela S. Razolli,Elisabeth Christiansen,Carlos M. G. Azevedo,Trond Ulven,Licio A. Velloso +8 more
TL;DR: GPR120 and GPR40 act in concert in the hypothalamus to reduce energy efficiency and regulate the inflammation associated with obesity and results in better metabolic outcomes than the isolated activation of either receptor alone.
Participation of prolactin receptors and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and MAP kinase pathways in the increase in pancreatic islet mass and sensitivity to glucose during pregnancy
Maria Esméria Corezola do Amaral,Daniel Andrade Da Cunha,Gabriel Forato Anhê,Mirian Ueno,Everardo M. Carneiro,Licio A. Velloso,Silvana Bordin,Antonio Carlos Boschero +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the involvement of the PI3K and MAP kinase (MAPK) cascades in islet development and growth in pregnant rats was investigated, and the protein expression of AKT1, p70S6K and SHC was higher in islets from pregnant compared with control rats.

Identification of insulin in the tear film and insulin receptor and IGF-1 receptor on the human ocular surface.
Eduardo Rocha,Daniel Andrade Da Cunha,Everardo M Carneiro,Antonio Carlos Boschero,Mário J A Saad,Licio A. Velloso +5 more
TL;DR: The first demonstration of insulin in human tear film and the presence of insulin and IGF-1 receptor on the human ocular surface are demonstrated, suggesting that the pancreatic hormone may play a metabolic and/or mitogenic role on the ocularsurface.

In vivo activation of insulin receptor tyrosine kinase by melatonin in the rat hypothalamus.
Gabriel Forato Anhê,Luciana C. Caperuto,Márcio Pereira-da-Silva,Lílian C. Souza,A Emiko Hirata,Licio A. Velloso,José Cipolla-Neto,Carla Roberta de Oliveira Carvalho +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that melatonin induces rapid tyrosine phosphorylation and activation of the insulin receptor β‐subunit tyosine kinase (IR) in the rat hypothalamic suprachiasmatic region, indicating a new signal transduction pathway for melatonin, but also a potential cross‐talk between melatonin and insulin.

Effect of aging on insulin receptor, insulin receptor substrate-1, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase in liver and muscle of rats
Carla Roberta de Oliveira Carvalho,Sigisfredo L. Brenelli,Ana Crimilda Fernando Silva,Andre Luiz Baptiston Nunes,Licio A. Velloso,Mario J.A. Saad +5 more
- 01 Jan 1996
TL;DR: The data suggest that changes in the early steps of insulin signal transduction may have an important role in the insulin resistance observed in old animals.
