An overview of reinforcement learning-based approaches for smart home energy management systems with energy storages

In recent years, food safety caused by foodborne pathogens and spoilage bacteria has become a major public health problem worldwide. Bacteriocins are a kind of antibacterial peptide synthesized by microbial ribosomes, and are widely used as food preservatives. However, when used individually bacteriocins may have limitations such as high cost of isolation and purification, narrow inhibitory spectrum, easy degradation by enzymes, and vulnerability to complex food environments. Numerous studies have demonstrated that co-treatment with bacteriocins and a variety of chemical substances can have synergistic antibacterial effects on spoilage microorganisms and foodborne pathogens, effectively prolonging the shelf life of food and ensuring food safety. Therefore, this paper systematically summarizes the synergistic bacteriostatic strategies of bacteriocins in combination with chemical substances such as essential oils, plant extracts, and organic acids. The impacts of bacteriocins when used individually and in combination with other chemical substances on different food substrates are clarified, and bacteriocin–chemical substance compositions that enhance antibacterial effectiveness and reduce the potential negative effects of chemical preservatives are highlighted and discussed. Combined treatments involving bacteriocins and different kinds of chemical substances are expected to be a promising new antibacterial method and to become widely used in both the food industry and biological medicine.

Potential Impact of Combined Inhibition by Bacteriocins and Chemical Substances of Foodborne Pathogenic and Spoilage Bacteria: A Review

Chilled tuna fillets are easy to be contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes, which is an important risk factor for the outbreak of foodborne diseases. Nisin (NS) in combination with sesamol (SE) has showed to have the ability to inhibit the growth of L. monocytogenes in bacterial culture-medium, however, their bacteriostatic effect in actual food model has been not evaluated. Therefore, in this study, the combined effect of NS and SE on the growth of L. monocytogenes in yellowfin tuna fillet (Thunnus albacares) which was stored at constant and fluctuating temperatures were evaluated. The results showed that the combined use of NS (25 μg/mL) and SE (1.0 mg/mL) significantly reduced the growth potential of L. monocytogenes to 1.1–3.2 log10 CFU/g compared with the control group at constant and fluctuating 10 °C. The combined treatment of NS and SE delayed the lipid oxidation activity and increased the catalase activity and glutathione peroxidase activity of tuna fillets, but did not significantly change the texture and color characteristics of tuna fillets. These results indicated that the combined of NS and SE may be a promising technology to reduce L. monocytogenes pollution and maintain the physical and chemical properties of tuna fillets products.

Artificial intelligence (AI) based on the perspective of data elements is widely used in the healthcare informatics domain. Large amounts of clinical data from electronic medical records (EMRs), electronic health records (EHRs), and electroencephalography records (EEGs) have been generated and collected at an unprecedented speed and scale. For instance, the new generation of wearable technologies enables easy-collecting peoples’ daily health data such as blood pressure, blood glucose, and physiological data, as well as the application of EHRs documenting large amounts of patient data. The cost of acquiring and processing health big data is expected to reduce dramatically with the help of AI technologies and open-source big data platforms such as Hadoop and Spark. The application of AI technologies in health big data presents new opportunities to discover the relationship among living habits, sports, inheritances, diseases, symptoms, and drugs. Meanwhile, with the development of fast-growing AI technologies, many promising methodologies are proposed in the healthcare field recently. In this paper, we review and discuss the application of machine learning (ML) methods in health big data in two major aspects: (1) Special features of health big data including multimodal, incompletion, time validation, redundancy, and privacy. (2) ML methodologies in the healthcare field including classification, regression, clustering, and association. Furthermore, we review the recent progress and breakthroughs of automatic diagnosis in health big data and summarize the challenges, gaps, and opportunities to improve and advance automatic diagnosis in the health big data field.

A survey of data element perspective: Application of artificial intelligence in health big data

Data physical education process is also the practical process of information technology and college physical education curriculum integration. In order to improve the accuracy of college sports training management evaluation, we propose a golden sine algorithm (GoldenSA) based on back propagation neural network (BPNN) model whose performance is affected by its parameter selection to optimize BPNN (GoldSA-BPNN). The quality evaluation model of physical education in higher education institutions is based on GoldenSA. Firstly, a multi-indicator evaluation system of university sports training management based on hierarchical analysis was constructed from four dimensions, including teaching contents, teaching methods, teaching attitudes, and teaching effects; secondly, the scores of 12 secondary indicators of university sports training management evaluation were taken as the input vector of BPNN.

Sports Training Management Model Based on Big Data Digital Technology under Complex Human Environment

Nisin (NS) has been considered as a food preservative against Listeria monocytogenes, an important foodborne pathogen that causes serious public health problems. However, the effectiveness of NS is also affected due to its instability and resistance of L. monocytogenes to NS. Combining NS with other antimicrobial substances is an excellent strategy to improve the effect. Sesamol (SE) has been reported to have the ability to inhibit the growth of L. monocytogenes. Thus, in this study, based on the determination of the fractional inhibitory concentration indices, the in vitro synergistic antibacterial activity of NS and SE was confirmed using standard L. monocytogenes ATCC19112 and L. monocytogenes isolated from food and clinical sources. The inhibition of NS and SE combination on the growth of L. monocytogenes was higher than that of NS or SE alone in tryptic soy yeast extract broth (TSB-YE) and pasteurized milk. The changes and damages of the cell structure and the cell morphology in the combination group were more significant than those in the single use of NS or SE. These results indicate that the combined application of NS and SE may be a promising alternative to NS for controlling the contamination of L. monocytogenes in food.
