Magnetic core-shell MnFe2O4@TiO2 nanoparticles decorated on reduced graphene oxide as a novel adsorbent for the removal of ciprofloxacin and Cu(II) from water

A novel litchi-like porous composite composed of a magnetic core, a tunable metal-organic framework (MOF) shell and a pH-sensitive hydroxyapatite (HAp) gatekeeper was successfully fabricated in this work. The anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) was effectively loaded on the Fe3O4@Fe-MOF@HAp nanocomposite with a loading capacity of 75.38 mg g-1. The nanocomposite had a saturation magnetization of 34 emu g-1 and thus possessed magnetic targeting function. In addition, the HAp gate, which had favorable biocompatibility and pH response characteristics, could be used to control the release of loaded DOX from the Fe3O4@Fe-MOF@HAp nanocomposite microspheres in a simulated acidic tumor cell environment, effectively killing tumor cells and reducing the toxic side effects to normal tissue. The smart design presented in this study, which incorporates a tunable shell and gate-controlled architecture, allows the sensitive release of drugs for efficient antitumor activity.

Litchi-like Fe3O4@Fe-MOF capped with HAp gatekeepers for pH-triggered drug release and anticancer effect

In this study, we present fabrication and characterization of a gas ionization sensor based on high aspect ratio one-dimensional CuO nanowires as the field enhancing medium. Self-organized arrays of CuO nanowires have been synthesized based on a low-cost thermal oxidation method and integrated into a gas ionization sensor (GIS). The self-organized arrays of CuO nanowires have been employed to detect the identity of several gas species such as He, Ar and CO at ambient temperature and pressure. The sharp nanoscale size of CuO tips provide very high electric fields at moderate voltages (less than 100 V) and provoke the breakdown of different gases. The reduced breakdown current of the metal oxide CuO nanowire electrodes result in reduced structural deformation. The proposed GIS based on CuO nano-tips exhibits good repeatability and selectivity for various types of gases and their mixtures.

A novel field ionization gas sensor based on self-organized CuO nanowire arrays

The influence of different morphologies of nanostructures on amyloid fibrillation has been investigated by monitoring the fibrillation of human serum albumin (HSA) in the presence of rod-, sphere-, flower-, and star-shaped copper oxide (CuO) nanostructures. The different morphologies of CuO have been synthesized from an aqueous solution-based precipitation method using various organic acids, viz., acetic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid. The fibrillation process of HSA has been examined using various biophysical techniques, e.g., Thioflavin T fluorescence, Congo red binding studies through UV spectroscopy, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and fluorescence microscopy. The monolayer protein coverage on the CuO nanostructures has been established through DLS studies, and the well-fitted Langmuir isotherm model has been used to interpret the differential adsorption behavior of HSA molecules on the CuO nanostructures. MFe2O4 (M=Mn, Co, Ni, Zn) Nanoparticles with diameters from 5nm to 30nm have been prepared through a hydrothermal method. In this system, ethanolamine was used as a basic source instead of NaOH. The as-prepared ferrites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In addition, the magnetic properties of the obtained ferrites have been studied at room temperature, showing that the magentic properties of ferrites closely depended on the chemical composition of M2+.

Preparation, Characterization and Magnetic Property of MFe2O4 (m=Mn, Zn, Ni, Co) Nanoparticles

Hydroxyapatite (HAP) urchins were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method using calcium nitrate, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, diamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt as complexing agent and ethonalamine as alkaline source. The influence of hydrothermal time on crystallinity and morphology of HAP have been investigated. The results indicate that well-crystallized HAP urchins can be synthesized at 180°C for 24h. SEM images show a large area of urchin-like microspheres consisted of a number of ribbons with lengths ranging from 2 to 5μm. Based on XRD and SEM results, the formation mechanism of HAP crystals has been discussed. A typical anti-inflammatory drug, ibuprofen, was used for drug loading, and the release behaviors of ibuprofen in a simulated body fluid (SBF) were studied. The results indicate that HAP urchins showed a favorable sustained release property for ibuprofen.

Hydrothermal Synthesis of Hydroxyapatite Urchins and its Drug Release Property

CuO nanorod arrays, networks of nanosheets and pistachio nuts consisting nanorods were prepared via a multi-step synthesis method starting from copper oxalate precursor. CuO nanorod arrays were prepared by solid state thermal calcination of Cu(OH)2 nanorod arrays through the reaction of copper oxalate precursor with NaOH at 40°C. CuO networks of nanosheets were obtained by treatment at 60°C for 90min, and CuO pistachio nuts consisting nanorods were obtained at 80°C for 20min. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The influences of temperature and reaction time on the synthesis of CuO were investigated. The formation mechanism of CuO nanostructures was discussed.
