Y. Lau,Shiwei Liu,Jinlei Qi,Juanjuan Zhang,Jing Yang,Yangni He,Maigeng Zhou,Benjamin J. Cowling,Luzhao Feng,Hongjie Yu,Hongjie Yu +27 more
TL;DR: Influenza was associated with substantial excess respiratory mortality in China between 2010-11 and 2014-15 seasons, especially in older adults aged at least 60 years, and continuous and high-quality surveillance data are needed to improve the estimation of the disease burden attributable to influenza.

Heterogeneity in Estimates of the Impact of Influenza on Population Mortality: A Systematic Review
Li Li,Li Li,Li Li,Jessica Y. Wong,Peng Wu,Helen S. Bond,Eric H. Y. Lau,Sheena G. Sullivan,Sheena G. Sullivan,Benjamin J. Cowling +9 more
TL;DR: No "average" estimate of excess mortality could be made due to the substantial variability of the estimates, partially attributable to methodological differences in the studies, and standardization of methodology in estimation of influenza-associated mortality would permit improved comparisons in the future.
Burden of influenza‐associated outpatient influenza‐like illness consultations in China, 2006‐2015: A population‐based study
Luzhao Feng,Shuo Feng,Tao Chen,Juan Yang,Juan Yang,Yiu Chung Lau,Zhibin Peng,Li Li,Xiling Wang,Jessica Y. Wong,Ying Qin,Helen S. Bond,Juanjuan Zhang,Vicky J. Fang,Jiandong Zheng,Jing Yang,Peng Wu,Hui Jiang,Yangni He,Benjamin J. Cowling,Hongjie Yu,Hongjie Yu,Yuelong Shu,Yuelong Shu,Eric H. Y. Lau +24 more
TL;DR: This data indicates that influenza‐associated outpatient burden in regions with high prevalence of influenza infection is likely to be higher than in other regions of the world where the virus infection burden is low.

TL;DR: Continuous and high-quality surveillance data across the whole country are needed to improve the estimation of the disease burden attributable to influenza in China.
