The emphasis is on the role librarians and information professionals (hereafter referred to only as librarians) can play in raising awareness of the potential of PIM and reference management and issues to be considered. The end goal is increasing quality, productivity, collaboration and creativity in the use of information. Personal information and reference management : librarians’ increasing creativity

Abstract Production networks have been established in many industrial domains with globalized supply structures, sourcing strategies or cooperation environments. Knowledge management in such networks requires a context-oriented approach in order to accommodate for individual and organizational needs when providing relevant knowledge for complex tasks, such as value creation. The focus of this paper is on the procedure by which to determine what actually has to be taken into account as part of the ‘context’ for establishing context-oriented knowledge management, how to capture this context, and how to use it. The variability of organisational and individual tasks both at design time and at runtime is essential for understanding context in production networks. The main contribution of the present study is a context modelling method, including variability identification. The application of this method is demonstrated by using an example of a production network from automotive industries.

Projetos de pesquisa e desenvolvimento (P&D), normalmente, envolvem a participação de mais de uma instituição. Essa estratégia de inovação vem sendo adotada por diversas organizações com o intuito de compartilhar custos e infraestrutura, além de otimizar tempo de capacitação da equipe. Por outro lado, podem surgir riscos de dependência de colaboradores caso não sejam adotados instrumentos de gestão do conhecimento (GC) para garantir a efetiva transferência de conhecimentos gerados por instituições contratadas. Em paralelo, foram verificadas oportunidades de melhoria na GC em projetos relacionadas a aspectos como comunicação, documentação e captura de conhecimento tácito. Por isso, o objetivo do presente artigo é verificar como tem acontecido a transferência de conhecimentos gerados no âmbito de projetos de P&D com a finalidade de se propor sugestões de aprimoramento na GC em projetos, sobretudo nos de P&D em razão de suas especificidades. Para isso, foi conduzido um estudo da literatura e os resultados mostram a aplicação de modelos e práticas de modo a sistematizar o processo de transferência de conhecimentos. Sobre os modelos, o SECI (acrônimo de socialização, externalização, combinação e internalização) ganhou destaque e a respeito das práticas, os mapas conceituais se apresentaram como possível solução para os problemas apresentados de GC em projetos, apesar de ser um tema ainda pouco explorado sobretudo na P&D. Desta forma, este estudo contribuiu para revelar que o modelo SECI de modo associado aos mapas conceituais, pode servir como subsídio para a criação de uma metodologia de transferência de conhecimentos para aprimorar a GC em projetos de P&D em pesquisas futuras.

Transferência de conhecimento em projeto colaborativo de pesquisa e desenvolvimento: um estudo da literatura

Uncertainty is an attribute of information. The path-breaking work of Shannon has led to a universal acceptance of the thesis that information is statistical in nature. Concomitantly, existing theories of uncertainty are based on probability theory. The generalized theory of uncertainty (GTU) departs from existing theories in essential ways. First, the thesis that information is statistical in nature is replaced by a much more general thesis that information is a generalized constraint, with statistical uncertainty being a special, albeit important case. Equating information to a generalized constraint is the fundamental thesis of GTU. Second, bivalence is abandoned throughout GTU, and the foundation of GTU is shifted from bivalent logic to fuzzy logic. As a consequence, in GTU everything is or is allowed to be a matter of degree or, equivalently, fuzzy. Concomitantly, all variables are, or are allowed to be granular, with a granule being a clump of values drawn together by a generalized constraint. And third, one of the principal objectives of GTU is achievement of NL-capability, that is, the capability to operate on information described in natural language. NL-capability has high importance because much of human knowledge, including knowledge about probabilities, is described in natural language. NL-capability is the focus of attention in the present paper. The centerpiece of GTU is the concept of a generalized constraint. The concept of a generalized constraint is motivated by the fact that most real-world constraints are elastic rather than rigid, and have a complex structure even when simple in appearance. The paper concludes with examples of computation with uncertain information described in natural language.

Personal information management (PIM), reference management and mind maps: the way to creative librarians?

The successful writing and management of collaborative research projects requires a common understanding of the project's objectives by all partners involved. It also requires a clear vision of the project inputs and outputs. This paper presents two case-studies where concept maps were used as a knowledge management tool in order to support both project life-cycle management and project proposal writing. Concept maps were drawn in both cases in order to describe the main activities executed in the project work packages (WPs) and to show how the WPs were linked to each other.
