Semicrystalline Polythiophene-Based Nanoparticles Deposited from Water on Flexible PET/ITO Substrates as a Sustainable Approach toward Long-Lasting Solid-State Electrochromic Devices

VitaBoot is a footwear concept incorporating dynamic graphical patterns which indicate the wearer's activity level. Whilst shoes are an important element in fashion wear and a lot of research has focused on shoes as input devices, comparable few concepts have explored the potential for their use as an output space. We created a boot design that incorporates dynamic patterning through the use of electrochromic (EC) displays embedded in the surface material. The boot was designed and constructed from scratch, using a faux leather material, ensuring the overall aesthetic of the design, including the integration of the required control electronics and power source. The boot connects wirelessly to a chest-worn heart rate belt, and pattern changes indicate when the wearer's heart rate is above a predefined threshold. VitaBoot demonstrates the potential for dynamic shoe patterning for aesthetic or functional means, and the suitability of flexible, low-power EC display technology in this domain.

We present the design and prototype of the Idle Stripes shirt, which is an aesthetic, clothing-integrated display, reflecting the wearer's physical activity in an ambient manner. The design is targeted to be smart business-wear for an office worker, which creates awareness of immobility periods during typical sitting-intensive office work. Long periods of such sitting are known to be health risks. The Idle Stripes shirt promotes healthy working, encouraging the wearer to break up their office desk work with walking breaks. The design prototype is constructed of a fabric with integrated optical fibers, which are illuminated based on the sitting time detected by an app running on the wearer's mobile phone.

Existing literature suggests that there is a relationship between leader–member exchange (LMX) and workplace envy (WE). However, a degree of inconsistency among research results was detected which could be due to overlooking the possible role of organizational stress (OS). Building on social comparison theory and transactional theory of stress and coping, it is proposed that the relationship between LMX and WE is moderated by OS. This study aims to provide additional insight into the mechanisms that develop WE and how it could be managed among Egyptian athletes. Two hypotheses were developed, and data was collected via self-report surveys from a sample of 320 Egyptian athletes. Regression analysis and multi-group moderation analysis were employed to test research hypotheses. Results indicated that LMX is negatively related to WE among Egyptian athletes. Moreover, it was found that OS moderates this relationship in the way that the strength of the relationship between LMX and workplace is significantly stronger among athletes with high perceived OS than among athletes with low perceived OS. Results were discussed and theoretical and managerial applications were presented. Fruitful insights have been communicated to coaches, athletes, and sport managers. Limitations and proposals for future research were suggested.

The Role of Organizational Stress in the Relationship Between Leader–Member Exchange and Workplace Envy

We present the initial prototype of a running shoe with integrated electrochromic (EC) information displays. The flexibility of the displays and the possibility to create displays in any shape make the technology particularly suited for seamless integration in running shoes, supporting the shoe's overall design aesthetic. Our prototype implementation includes a segmented display in the toe-box area of the shoe, suitable for display of goal achievement and a side display, showing the wear-and-tear state of the shoe. The EC displays are driven by an Arduino microcontroller, battery and sensors, embedded in the sole. As next steps, the shoe will be evaluated in trials with experienced runners.

BuSiNec - Studying the Effects of a Busyness Signifying Necklace in the Wild

In his vision of "calm technology", Weiser thought of people being surrounded by devices and displays that only come to the user's attention when needed. Non-light emitting electrochromic (EC) displays are one approach to conveying information in a calm and unobtrusive way. The dynamic graphical segment based EC displays are extremely low power, require no special driving electronics, and are not limited to rectangular form factors. In our demo, we present four prototypes exploring the design space for EC displays in different application domains for information presentation and decorative aesthetics.
