Biliary fibrosis associated with altered bile composition in a mouse model of erythropoietic protoporphyria
L Meerman,Nynke R. Koopen,Vincent W. Bloks,Harry van Goor,Rick Havinga,Bert G. Wolthers,Werner Kramer,Siegfried Stengelin,Michael Müller,Folkert Kuipers,Peter L.M. Jansen +10 more
TL;DR: Bile formation is strongly affected in mice with impaired ferrochelatase activity and formation of cytotoxic bile with high concentrations of bile salts and PP may cause biliary fibrosis in fch/fch mice by damaging bile duct epithelium.

Bone loss after liver transplantation is not prevented by cyclical etidronate, calcium and alphacalcidol
S.C. Riemens,A Oostdijk,van Jasper Doormaal,C.J.P. Thijn,Gerda Drent,D. A. Piers,Ewj Groen,L Meerman,Mjh Slooff,Elizabeth B. Haagsma +9 more
TL;DR: Increased bone resorption occurs after OLT with persistent decreased bone formation, leading to vertebral fracture in 25% of patients, which is not lower than previously reported rates in patients not receiving cyclical etidronate.

Type IIIb glycogen storage disease associated with end-stage cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma
Elizabeth B. Haagsma,Gerrit Smit,K. E. Niezen-Koning,Annette S. H. Gouw,L Meerman,Mjh Slooff +5 more

Doppler ultrasound of the hepatic artery and vein performed daily in the first two weeks after orthotopic liver transplantation. Useful for the diagnosis of acute rejection
Theo Kok,Els B. Haagsma,Ids J. Klompmaker,Jan-Harm Zwaveling,Paul M. J. G. Peeters,Charles M. A. Bijleveld,L Meerman,Maarken J. H. Slooff +7 more
TL;DR: Serial Doppler ultrasound examinations were not helpful in predicting acute rejection after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), according to the authors.
