A 60 GHz, 200 kW CW gyrotron with a pure output mode†
TL;DR: In this article, a Varian 60 GHz gyrotron designed specifically to generate microwaves in a single output mode has been operated at power levels up to 200 kW CW using mode-specific directional couplers.

First 200 kW CW operation of a 60 GHz gyrotron
Howard Roberts Jory,R. Bier,S. Evans,Kevin Felch,L. Fox,H. Huey,J. Shively,S. Spang +7 more
- 01 Jan 1983
TL;DR: The Varian 60 GHz gyrotron has recently generated microwave power in excess of 200 kW during CW operation, with excellent dynamic range and operating stability as discussed by the authors, which is the highest average power ever produced by a microwave tube in the millimeter wave region.
Analysis of the output mode from 60 GHz, 200 kW pulsed and CW gyrotrons
K. Feloh,R. Bier,L. Fox,H. Huey,H. Jory,J. Manca,J. Shively,S. Spang,C. Moeller +8 more
- 01 Jan 1983
TL;DR: In this paper, a 60 GHz, 200 kw, 100 ms pulse tube was compared with similar measurements on the 60 GHz and 200 kW, CW gyrotron, and the results indicated that the CW tube had significantly more conversion of the TE 02 mode into other TE on modes than did the pulse tube.
Recent operating experience with Varian 70 GHz and 140 GHz gyrotrons
Kevin Felch,R. Bier,L. Fox,H. Huey,L. Ives,H. Jory,N. Lopez,J. Shively,S. Spang +8 more
- 01 Jan 1985
TL;DR: In this paper, the design features and initial test results of Varian 70 GHz and 140 GHz gyrotrons are presented, and the first experimental 140 GHz tube has achieved an output power of 102 kW at 24% efficiency under pulsed conditions in the desired TE031 cavity mode.

Design considerations for a 100 kW CW, 140 GHz gyrotron oscillator
Kevin Felch,R. Bier,L. Fox,H. Huey,L. Ives,Howard Roberts Jory,S. Spang +6 more
- 01 Jan 1984
TL;DR: A gyrotron oscillator capable of generating 100 kW of CW power is currently under development at Varian as discussed by the authors for operation in the TE 031 ocavity mode with the electron beam located at the second radial electric field maximum in the cavity.
