This review develop different switching methods for Multi Level Inverter (MLI). The switching methods proposed in this paper are to compare various methods and to predict exact switching method for different application based upon its quality of the outputs.  The performance of the inverter is analyzed with the parameters like THD (Total Harmonic Injection), V RMS (fundamental), CF (Crest Factor), FF (Form Factor) and DF (Distortion Factor). From the various non PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) and PWM methods the analysis are method to identify the exact PWM strategies for specific applications.

A Review on Modulation Strategies of Multi Level Inverter

This paper presents a Xilinx Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based speed control of AC Servomotor using sinusoidal PWM technique. Xilinx FPGA is a programmable logic device developed by Xilinx which is considered as an efficient hardware for rapid prototyping. It is used to generate 50 Hz sine wave, the triangular wave and the sinusoidal PWM signals. The sinusoidal pulse width controls the speed of Motor. The proposed control scheme has been realized using Xilinx FPGA SPARTAN XC3S400 and tested using SM115 model Alternating Current (AC) servomotor. The result provides a controllable speed with satisfactory dynamic and static performances.

Induction motors are being used in greater numbers throughout a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications because it provides many benefits and reliable device to convert the electrical energy into mechanical motion. In some applications, it's desired to control the speed of the induction motor. Because of the physics of the induction motor the preferred method of controlling its speed is to vary the frequency of the AC voltage driving the motor. In recent years, with the microcontroller incorporated into an appliance, it becomes possible to use it to generate the variable frequency AC voltage to control the speed of the induction motor. This study investigates the microcontroller based variable frequency power inverter. The microcontroller provides the variable frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) signal that controls the applied voltage on the gate drive, which provides the required PWM frequency with less harmonics at the output of the power inverter. The fully controlled bridge voltage source inverter has been implemented with semiconductors power devices isolated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), and the PWM technique has been employed in this inverter to supply the motor with AC voltage. The proposed drive system for three & single phase power inverter is simulated using Matlab/Simulink. The Matlab simulation results of the proposed system were achieved with different SPWM. From the result, a stable variable frequency inverter over wide range has been obtained and a good agreement has been found between the simulation and hardware of a microcontroller based single phase inverter.

Microcontroller Based Variable Frequency Power Inverter

This paper proposes an implementation of Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) converter and Voltage Source Inverter for an Induction Motor using Photovoltaic energy as a source. Generally the larger number of drives employed for industrial and commercial applications are induction motor drives. To run such kind of motor from the PV source, it is proposed to have a DCDC converter and an inverter circuit as interface circuits. As the PV cell posses the nonlinear behavior, a DC-DC converter with Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) controller is needed to improve its utilization efficiency and for matching the load to the photovoltaic modules. In this paper SEPIC converter (DC-DC converter) with Perturb and Observe MPPT algorithm is used for matching the load and to boost the PV module output voltage. To convert the boosted DC output voltage from PV module into AC, a voltage source inverter with sinusoidal pulse width modulation is implemented on it to attain sufficient voltage to drive single phase induction motor. The simulation work of these SEPIC converter and voltage source inverter fed induction motor circuits have been done using PSIM and MATLAB software. The experimental work is carried out with the SEPIC converter and voltage source inverter to drive the single phase induction motor. A PIC microcontroller is used to generate pulses for controlling the SEPIC converter circuit.

The paper presents the control principle for a PWM single-phase inverter, using the capabilities of 80C552 microcontroller. The basics of control program are described. How the characteristics of the presented inverter essentially depend on the features of control system, only few microcontrollers can match the necessities for high performances. One of them is Philips 80C552. The powerful T2 timer gives its useful feature in our application.
