Foreign Direct investment (FDI) is considered to be an important source of capital especially in developing countries. FDI supplements local savings and brings a series of benefits in host countries. This research has focused OIC on countries since these countries are still far behind in attracting FDI compared to other developing countries. OIC member countries inhibit diversity in their resources from resource rich to resource poor countries. They lack behind the developed world in terms of economic development pertaining to weak economies. Since for these types of countries FDI can prove to be a vital source of capital, it becomes important to study the factors that affect it. This study exactly does the same by incorporating a series of determinants (inflation, size of the economy, trade openness, infrastructure, and institutional quality) to assess the impact they have in attracting FDI. We have used data for 42 countries spanning over 1996-2013. The choice of data selection has been dictated by data availability. For estimation we have used panel fixed effects and random effects estimators. Our results indicate that size of economy, infrastructure and trade openness are positively and significantly related in attracting FDI in those countries. Institutions on the other hand are negatively related. The effects of inflation are somewhat mixed according to our estimation and not robust. The implications of our findings are that policy makers should expend efforts in making more trade oriented policies, improve infrastructure and increase the size of economy.

The Determinants of FDI in OIC Countries

This study examines the association between government-linked investment companies’ (GLICs’) shareholdings and real earnings management activities in Malaysia. Consistent with prior research, this study uses three proxies to measure real earnings management; abnormal cash flow from operations (RCFO), abnormal production costs (RPC), and abnormal discretionary expenses (RDE). This study segregates GLICs’ shareholdings into two categories; Federal Government Pension Investment Funds (FGPIF) and other GLICs (OFGLIC). Using a sample of 213 firm-year observations of Malaysian government-linked companies from 2010 to 2015, this study finds that FGPIF is a more effective monitoring mechanism than OFGLIC in limiting real earnings management. The findings also show that there is a significant and negative relationship between Employee Provident Fund (EPF), Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah), Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and RCFO and RPC. The evidence suggests that these three are the most effective government institutional investors in promoting corporate governance, which in turn limit real earning management activities in Malaysia. In general, the findings support the incentive alignment hypothesis, which argues that companies with government intervention are normally better governed.

Government-Linked Investment Companies and Real Earnings Management: Malaysian Evidence

Teaching essay writing scenario in this technological era is also aimed on interactive multimedia integration; text and graphics that revolve around inquiry and constructive thinking. In thinking process itself, inquiries are considered fundamental to teachers in teaching essay writing. Hence, this research is conducted to study teacher's opinion on constructive thinking process that based on interactive multimedia integration; text and graphics. Quantitative research design that based survey method is used in accordance with the questionnaire. The samples are 33 Malay Language teachers in Bangsar Zone, Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur. The finding shows that there is a significant correlation between inquiry and constructive thinking, r = 2.01, the level of significant is < 0.05. It is advised that all Malay language teachers focus on the aspect inquiry and constructive thinking for teaching essay writing. The implication of this study is focused on impressive teaching sources. The interactive multimedia integration that is being studied should also focus on other integrated elements; graphic, audio, animation and video.

Teacher's Opinion Towards Constructive Thinking for Teaching Essay Writing Based on Interactive Multimedia Integration

The principal objective of the current study is to explore the link between knowledge sharing transformational leadership style, team performance, and mutual trust. In addition to that moderating role of mutual trust is also examined. The study has broached the argument that knowledge sharing and transformational leadership style improves team performance. Findings of the current study suggest creativity is a process that starts in the team through the sharing of knowledge. The currents study is also of the view that the that the process of creativity starts in the situation when the team members share knowledge through coordination and it is also argued that the much of the knowledge is shared when team members meet to share knowledge in a given area, much of which is tacit. Sharing such tacit knowledge creates a flow of novel ideas that contribute to successful outcomes, such as new products, processes and patents. The findings of the study have shown agreement with the proposed or hypothesize results. The study has used PLS-SEM to analyses the data. The study will be helpful for policy makers in the researcher in understanding the issues related to supply chain, its integration, flexibility, and internal performance.

Does Transport Infrastructure Fosters the Economic Growth: an Asean Perspective

The local economic development (LED) had been in existence prior to the advent of democracy in 1994 government. At that time there was a strong focus on the agricultural sector. The apartheid government at that time fully supported the LED initiatives but not all citizens of South Africa benefited from that support. The Acts and policies of the apartheid government such as the Group Areas Act forced black people to move out of places with resources and placed them into areas with poor resources. After 1994 the South African government adopted LED as a strategy to deal with the disparities of the past such as poverty, unemployment, and poor standards of living. Several strategies were put into place to overcome the challenges that was as a result of the apartheid past. The Zululand district with similar intention of the post-apartheid government embarked on initiating the ward based LED program to deal with the consequences of the past. The status quo report of the Zululand district still identified high levels of poverty and unemployment and a slow growth in the local economy as a major concern. This study aimed to investigate the ward based LED program in order to establish if the program has made the achievement towards its objectives and also to establish what challenges are encountered by the local government in the implementation of the program. The study used a qualitative research method which was conducted with the adoption of one on -one interview as a tool for data collection. The researcher prepared an interview schedule of open ended questions to allow the liberty and a flexible expression of perceptions, experiences and understanding of participants on the phenomenon under investigation.
