Classic assumptions and hypotheses, such as first harmonic, are widely adopted in literature in the modeling of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG) for wind energy applications. This allows smoother and less bulky simulations and gives sufficient results. However, models that reflect both the electromagnetic and aerodynamic behaviors are needed to conduct further studies on the aerogenerators. In this paper, a near-realistic simulation environment of a 1.5 MW PMSG-based and grid-connected wind conversion system is proposed. The computer-aided engineering tool FAST is used. It allows introducing the aerodynamic behavior of the wind turbine and the loads that come alongside it in the simulations. Both a harmonic and a first harmonic model of the PMSG are controlled. An optimized field-oriented control strategy (FOC) is proposed using the $H_{\infty}$ robust control approach. The optimized FOC strategy is proven more efficient than the classic PI-based FOC and an adequate control is obtained.

Robust Control and Harmonics Modeling of a PMSG for a 1.5 MW Wind Turbine

An improved vector control method is presented in this study to enhance synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) performance. The maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) technique has demonstrated good dynamic properties since the torque control is closely tied to the current control. The selection of the control approach is primarily influenced by how the reference current values will be defined. Additionally, a five-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter replaces the traditional two-level inverter. Only eight voltage vectors can be produced by a two-level inverter, whereas one hundred twenty-five voltage vectors can be generated by a five-level inverter. The goal is to produce an output voltage vector that closely resembles the reference voltage vector in order to ensure a quick response on the one hand and enhance dynamic performance on the other. An exact comparison of the suggested vector control strategy's properties is made once it has been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. The acquired findings are satisfactory and high performance is attained in terms of response time, torque ripple reduction, and current waveform improvement.

Synchronous Reluctance Motor Performance Improvement Using MTPA Control Strategy and Five-Level Inverter Topology

This paper presents flux density analysis of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine in a closed-loop system. This system is developed in co-simulation with Ansys software using the FEM model of the machine. Here the vector control technique with constant mutual flux linkage control strategy is implemented. Different parameters such as electromagnetic torque, speed, stator current, flux density at different parts of the stator is analyzed in different operating conditions. However, the losses of motor highly depend on the rate of change of flux density, which is the utmost factor while designing Motor drive. The novelty of the paper implies the consideration of flux density variation in different parts of the stator core under the different test cases. However, in case of MATLAB/Simulink it's not possible to consider these losses inherently. The FEM model of the PMSM is insinuated to the practical model of the motor. Hence this analysis will be helpful for the designer to improve the drive system towards practical applications.

Analysis of Flux Density in PMSM with Constant Mutual Flux Linkage Control Strategy Using FEM Model

This paper analyzes the performance of dual-rotor axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor for its application in electric motor drive. Dual-rotor single-stator topology is employed for analysis due to its superior features compared to other topologies of the motor for electric drive application. Constant torque angle control strategy with hysteresis current controller for inverter switching is implemented with the axial flux motor and is analyzed for validation. To enhance the robustness of the control strategy, the coefficients of proportional-integral controller are optimized with particle swarm optimization algorithm using Matlab/Simulink software to minimize the torque and speed ripples obtained from the conventional setting of proportional-integral controller. The performance analysis of the motor drive with optimized controller coefficients is carried out using Ansys co-simulation with Maxwell and Simplorer softwares. The simulation analysis of the motor with optimized constant torque angle strategy shows good motor performance and robustness which is inferred from results.

Optimized Vector Control Strategy for Dual-Rotor Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for in-Wheel Electric Drive Applications

The performance analysis of two current control techniques for the control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive is investigated in this paper. Constant torque angle control strategy is employed for the outer speed control loop to obtain maximum torque per unit current. In enhancing the drive system dynamics, the current control loop is employed which offer significant advantages for voltage source inverter fed motors. A proper comparison is made between the hysteresis current control and model predictive current control for the best selection of controller to the PMSM. To verify the robustness of implemented HCC and MPCC, different parameters such as amount of ripple present in speed, torque, current are considered. The dynamic behaviour of the motor is analysed using MATLAB/ Simulink. The simulation results shows that MPCC produces fast and better dynamic performance in aspects such as variable speed and variable load operations with less ripples present in it. 

Comparative Analysis of Model Predictive and Hysteresis Current Control for PMSM drive Application

This paper presents a comparative analysis of constant torque angle control (CTAC) and constant mutual flux linkage control (CMFLC) of permanent magnet synchronous motor. Usually, high-performance motor drives are categorized by their fast and precise response, quick regaining from disturbances, and insensitivity to parameter variations. In the literature several possible solutions for the controlling of PMSM are proposed. Hence, a comprehensive comparison between these two control techniques will be helpful for the user to choose the better strategy depending on the application. In CTAC, the current which is responsible for torque producing (quadrature axis current) is taken as zero, so that torque angle becomes constant and its value becomes 90°, however in case of CMFLC of PMSM reference mutual flux is taken constant and its value is equal to the constant flux producing by the surface mount permanent magnet. The Simulink model is developed in MATLAB for both the control technique and different performance parameters are compared.
