The invention discloses a method for preparing a visible light photocatalyst, namely BiOCl nanosheets. The method comprises the following steps: dissolving bismuth nitrate in deionized water, thereby obtaining a solution A, dissolving sodium chloride in absolute ethyl alcohol, thereby obtaining a solution B, dropwise adding the solution B into the solution A under intense agitation, adding polyethylene glycol 10000 and a sodium citrate template agent, stirring to obtain a mixed solution, reacting the solution at a constant temperature in a reaction kettle, thereby obtaining a white precipitate, washing and performing air drying, thereby obtaining the visible light photocatalyst. The prepared visible light photocatalyst, namely the BiOCl nanosheets, is used for catalyzing degradation of bisphenol A. The method has the advantages that hydrothermal synthesis is adopted, the process is simple, and reaction conditions are mild; when the concentration of the solution A and the solution B is high or low simultaneously, different growth orientations are presented, and the nanosheets of different growth orientations are prepared; when high concentration is selected, the prepared nanosheet can be used for degrading 200mg/L bisphenol A under irradiation of a 500W xenon lamp within 9 hours and has an obvious technical effect.
