Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and paclitaxel. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.

Human G-protein chemokine receptor polypeptides and DNA (RNA) encoding such polypeptides and a procedure for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques is disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for utilizing such polypeptides for identifying antagonists and agonists to such polypeptides and methods of using the agonists and antagonists therapeutically to treat conditions related to the underexpression and overexpression of the G-protein chemokine receptor polypeptides, respectively. Also disclosed are diagnostic methods for detecting a mutation in the G-protein chemokine receptor nucleic acid sequences and detecting a level of the soluble form of the receptors in a sample derived from a host.

N-(2)-Carboxyphenyl-4-chloroanthranilic acid disodium [Lobenzarit disodium (CCA)] is widely used for the treatment of patients with RA in Japan; however, the pharmacological mechanism of the compound is still unclear. In this report, the effect of CCA on the proliferation and DNA synthesis of endothelial cells was examined. CCA inhibited DNA synthesis in endothelial cells at a rather lower concentration than that in fibroblasts and HeLa cells. The DNA polymerase alpha activity was inhibited by CCA at a lower concentration than E. coli DNA polymerase I and avian myeloblastosis virus reverse transcriptase. Thus, CCA is a potent inhibitor of DNA polymerase alpha and this inhibitory effect could cause the inhibition of endothelial cell proliferation, which may be related to the therapeutic and pharmacological mechanisms of CCA.
