Periodic surface pattern fabrication via biprism interference micro-machining
Ishan Saxena,Jintao Liu,Kornel F. Ehmann,Jian Cao +3 more
- 27 Oct 2015
TL;DR: In this paper, a two-beam interference pattern generated by a Fresnel biprism placed coaxially in the path of a laser pulse was used to fabricate periodic micro-channels on aluminum surfaces.

Mechanistic Model for Spade Drills for Wood Drilling Operations, Part 1: Model Development
Hanxin Zhao,Kornel F. Ehmann +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an investigation of the force system generated during spade drill-bit drilling processes that is a prerequisite for the design of spade-drills with improved performance.

An investigation into the mechanics of double-sided incremental forming using finite element methods
Newell Moser,Zixuan Zhang,Huaqing Ren,Kornel F. Ehmann,Jian Cao +4 more
- 19 Oct 2016
TL;DR: In this paper, a finite element model for double-sided incremental forming (DSIF) was developed and the strain histories in various regions were extracted, and it was concluded that if the supporting tool loses contact with the sheet, localized necking can occur prior to part failure.

Towards bi-metallic injection molds by directed energy deposition
TL;DR: In this paper, 17-4 PH stainless steel was deposited onto a copper substrate to demonstrate the potential to create multi-material injection molds, and the advantages of both materials can be exploited to reduce cycle time while maintaining mold durability.
