The present invention provides an image of high image quality by using a magnetic carrier coated with a novel coating resin composition. Further, the present invention stably provides a good image which is hardly influenced by environmental fluctuation and long-term use and has a superior stability of a charging amount when left to stand especially under high temperature and high humidity environments. The present invention also provides a magnetic carrier characterized in that a carrier core surface is coated with a copolymer containing at least, as copolymerization components, an acrylic monomer having a specific structure and an acrylic macromonomer having a specific structure.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner forming a superior image, free from problems such as fog, density decrease, image unevenness, filming, and contamination of members even in long term use and use at a high temperature and high humidity environment, and having excellent transfer efficiency, low temperature fixability, and offset resistance. SOLUTION: This toner comprises a binder resin, a wax component, a magnetic substance, and inorganic fine powder. The toner has a number average particle diameter D1 of 3.0-9.0 μm. In a micro compression test to the toner, when setting a particle diameter of the measured toner as D; the maximum displacement amount in applying a load of 9.8×10 -4 N at a load of 9.8×10 -5 N/sec velocity to one particle of the toner as X 100 ; and a displacement amount in applying a load of 2.0×10 -4 N as X 20 , the toner satisfies: D 1 +0.20≥D≥D 1 -0.20; 0.15≤X 100 /D≤0.90; and 0.005≤X 20 /D≤0.070. A toner which has i) toner base particles containing at least a binder resin and a colorant and ii) a fatty acid metal salt composition as an external additive. The fatty acid metal salt composition contains a nonionic surface-active agent and a fatty acid metal salt. This toner and an image forming process making use of the toner can keep the toner from adhering to a toner carrying member throughout running, promise a stable chargeability of the toner and can keep any deterioration of halftone image quality from being caused by excess charging of the toner and any image fog from being caused by insufficient charging of the toner.

SOLUTION: The toner comprises: toner particles containing at least a binder resin, a colorant, wax, a vinyl-modified polyester resin and a resin having a sulfonic acid or a sulfonate group or a sulfonic acid ester; and inorganic fine particles. The toner particles are manufactured by polymerization in a water-based medium in the presence of at least a vinyl modified polyester resin. The vinyl modified polyester resin contains a resin having a molecular structure of at least a vinyl single polymer or copolymer unit chemically coupled with a polyester unit.
