Dinuclear Lanthanide Schiff‐Base Complexes Forming a Rectangular Columnar Mesophase
Koen Binnemans,Katleen Lodewyckx,Thomas Cardinaels,Tatjana N. Parac-Vogt,Cyril Bourgogne,Daniel Guillon,Bertrand Donnio +6 more
TL;DR: The Schiff base LH3 obtained by condensation of 3-formyl4-hydroxyphenyl-3,4,5-tris(tetradecyloxy)benzoate with 1,3diamino-2-propanol reacts with lanthanide(III) acetate salts to form dinuclear complexes of the type Ln2L2 with the trivalent ions from the first half of the lanthanides series as discussed by the authors.

Metal extraction with a short-chain imidazolium nitrate ionic liquid
TL;DR: A short-chain symmetrical dihexyl imidazolium nitrate ionic liquid for conventional solvent extraction of metals was developed for separation of the Sm(iii)/Co(ii) and La(iii/Ni(II) pairs, relevant for the recycling of SmCo magnets and NiMH batteries.

Influence of crystal-field perturbations on the room-temperature magnetic anisotropy of lanthanide complexes
Vladimir S. Mironov,Yury G. Galyametdinov,Arnout Ceulemans,Christiane Görller-Walrand,Koen Binnemans +4 more
TL;DR: In this article, the magnetic susceptibility of eight-coordinate lanthanide ions was modelled numerically for polyhedra resulting from distortions of the regular cube to a tetragonal prism, antiprism, and dodecahedron.

Liquid-crystalline azines formed by the rare-earth promoted decomposition of hydrazide “habbe” ligands: structural and thermal properties
Rik Van Deun,Tatjana N. Parac-Vogt,Kristof Van Hecke,Luc Van Meervelt,Koen Binnemans,Daniel Guillon,Bertrand Donnio +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a synthetic pathway is proposed, in which the rare-earth ion promotes the decomposition of the habbe ligand into a symmetrical azine, which shows mesomorphism.

Two-Dimensional Self-Assembly and Phase Behavior of an Alkoxylated Sandwich-Type Bisphthalocyanine and Its Phthalocyanine Analogues at the Liquid−Solid Interface
TL;DR: The 2D self-assembly of dodecyloxy-substituted (bisphthalocyaninato)erbium(III) has been studied at the solid (highly oriented pyrolytic graphite)-liquid interface by scanning tunneling microscopy and provides insight for the development of well-ordered nanostructures of bisphthalOCyanines in the presence of phthalocyanines.
