Objective: The aim of this study is to suggest a way to identify user values in order to develop the service concept based on network analysis. Background: The service design is a complex process that requires understanding the connections between users, providers, and user experience. The core of service design is to discover user values in order to elicit the service concept, which satisfies user needs. Method: The study consists of four main steps; (1) interview data collection, (2) converting raw data into structured data, (3) generating the relation matrix, and (4) network visualization and analysis. Results: ‘Joy’ was the most important value teens pursuing and, ‘beauty’ and ‘managing relationships’ appeared as the key values with high centrality in using the Internet. Conclusion: This study suggested network analysis as a non-hierarchical method for identifying the user value and generating the service concept. Application: The results of the paper might help to interpret the qualitative interview data from the structural perspective.

Understanding User Values to Develop the Service Concept Using Network Analysis

With the rapid development of China’s economy, people's living standards have stepped on their way of continuous improvement, and the number of dinning out also increases continuously. Therefore, the restaurant-queuing problem in commercial circle has become a specific social phenomenon. The paper aims at studying restaurant queuing system of commercial circle from the perspective of service design to figure out the problems in current restaurant queuing system, complaints and demands from users through conducted research and contextual inquiry, and collect statistics for studying user’s experience and analysing system function and affordability so as to draw the service blueprint of queuing system in commercial circle. Furthermore, suggestions on solution of various problems in restaurant queuing will be provided in order to better arrange business space, restaurant resources and users’ time.

What is service design? Why is service design drawing attention? When didservice design appear? This paper started to answer these simple questions because the term and the concept of service design is still new to the general audience and even to people in the design field.Today’s industries and companies have been changed greatly from a product, technology providers to the solution, and service providers, which means that a paradigm shiftsfrom placing emphasis on manufacturing goods to providing services. This new concept and service era has becomea key issue worldwide, especially in European countries,who noticed earlier on that design isa key element to resolve society’s current problems and developed systems in response. This paper will briefly explain what service design is, when and where it is needed, who the provider is and how to deliver service design.By doing so, it will acknowledge the importance of service design. A case study will be performed to analyze the process of service design work, and because of the intangibility of service design, evaluation methodology from other disciplines will be implemented to investigate service quality.
