A lung/liver-on-a-chip platform for acute and chronic toxicity studies
David Bovard,Antonin Sandoz,Karsta Luettich,Stefan Frentzel,Anita R. Iskandar,Diego Marescotti,Keyur Trivedi,Emmanuel Guedj,Quentin Dutertre,Manuel C. Peitsch,Julia Hoeng +10 more
TL;DR: The lung/liver-on-a-chip platform presented here offers new opportunities to study the toxicity of inhaled aerosols or to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of new drug candidates targeting the human lung.
A systems toxicology approach for comparative assessment: Biological impact of an aerosol from a candidate modified-risk tobacco product and cigarette smoke on human organotypic bronchial epithelial cultures
Anita R. Iskandar,Carole Mathis,Walter K. Schlage,Stefan Frentzel,Patrice Leroy,Yang Xiang,Alain Sewer,Shoaib Majeed,Laura Ortega-Torres,Stephanie Johne,Emmanuel Guedj,Keyur Trivedi,Gilles Kratzer,Celine Merg,Ashraf Elamin,Florian Martin,Nikolai V. Ivanov,Manuel C. Peitsch,Julia Hoeng +18 more
TL;DR: Lower levels of secreted mediators and fewer miRNA alterations were observed following exposure to THS2.2 aerosol than following 3R4F smoke, and the biological impact of a heated tobacco aerosol from the tobacco heating system (THS) 2.2 and smoke from a combustible 3R 4F cigarette was compared.

3-D nasal cultures: Systems toxicological assessment of a candidate modified-risk tobacco product.
Anita R. Iskandar,Carole Mathis,Florian Martin,Patrice Leroy,Alain Sewer,Shoaib Majeed,Diana Kuehn,Keyur Trivedi,Davide Grandolfo,Maciej Cabanski,Emmanuel Guedj,Celine Merg,Stefan Frentzel,Nikolai V. Ivanov,Manuel C. Peitsch,Julia Hoeng +15 more
TL;DR: For all tested concentrations the impact of 3R4F smoke was substantially greater than that of THS2.2 aerosol in terms of cytotoxicity levels, alterations in tissue morphology, secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators, impaired ciliary function, and increased perturbed transcriptomes and miRNA expression profiles.
Comparative systems toxicology analysis of cigarette smoke and aerosol from a candidate modified risk tobacco product in organotypic human gingival epithelial cultures: A 3-day repeated exposure study.
Filippo Zanetti,Bjoern Titz,Alain Sewer,Giuseppe Lo Sasso,Elena Scotti,Walter K. Schlage,Carole Mathis,Patrice Leroy,Shoaib Majeed,Laura Ortega Torres,Brian R. Keppler,Ashraf Elamin,Keyur Trivedi,Emmanuel Guedj,Florian Martin,Stefan Frentzel,Nikolai V. Ivanov,Manuel C. Peitsch,Julia Hoeng +18 more
TL;DR: Exposure to THS2.2 aerosol had a lower impact on the pathophysiology of human gingival organotypic cultures than CS, and transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis indicated a general reduction of the impact.

Complications of Transesophageal Echocardiography: A Review of Injuries, Risk Factors, and Management.
Kinjal M. Patel,Ronak Desai,Keyur Trivedi,Peter J. Neuburger,Sandeep K. Krishnan,Christopher Potestio +5 more
TL;DR: A narrative review of complications from TEE focuses on the incidence of UGI injuries, the spectrum of injuries associated with TEE, risk factors that may contribute to U GI injuries, as well as diagnosis and management options.
