Recent Advances in Vanadium-Based Aqueous Rechargeable Zinc-Ion Batteries

The development of phosphor materials with outstanding photoluminescence properties is critical for next-generation high-quality solid-state white lighting. As there is a blue-green cavity existing in the emission spectra of the traditional phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs), the cyan-emitting phosphor serves as an important function in compensating the spectral gap to realize “full-visible-spectrum lighting”. Herein, we reported the discovery of an efficient cyan-emitting Ce3+-doped Ca2YHf2Al3O12 (CYHAO) garnet phosphor with good thermal stability. The as-prepared CYHAO:xCe3+ phosphor exhibited a broad excitation band in the range of 360 to 460 nm with a maximum at 408 nm, making this phosphor compatible with an efficient 400 nm near-ultraviolet (NUV)-emitting LED chip. Under 408 nm excitation, the optimal sample of CYHAO:0.03Ce3+ exhibited bright broadband cyan emission (λem = 493 nm; bandwidth = 100 nm) together with an extra-high internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of 89.5% and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 69.1%. Notably, the as-prepared CYHAO:0.03Ce3+ phosphor showed good thermal stability (64.2% of emission intensity retained at 423 K) and excellent color stability when working in the temperature range of 303–463 K. Importantly, the constructed w-LED device exhibited bright well-distributed warm white light with a high color rendering index (CRI; Ra = 93.5 and R12 = 90.4) and low correlated color temperature (3700 K) under 60 mA driven current, indicating that the title cyan phosphor can be utilized for the compensation of the blue-green cavity to be applied in full-visible-spectrum lighting. Furthermore, these findings provide new insights into exploring high-performance cyan phosphors for NUV-pumped high-CRI warm w-LEDs.

Full-visible-spectrum lighting enabled by an excellent cyan-emitting garnet phosphor

Finding efficient cyan phosphors with broadband absorption in the near-ultraviolet range (380–420 nm) and bright emission around 490 nm are highly important to make up for the so-called cyan gap (480–520 nm) in traditional tricolor (blue, green and red) phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Herein, we reported a new garnet phosphor, namely Ca2LuZr2(AlO4)3:Ce3+ (CLZA:Ce3+), with a cyan-emitting band, which enabled to fill the cyan gap and realize high color rendering white LEDs. The composition-optimized CLZA:1% Ce3+ phosphors showed an intense broad excitation band in the 370–475 nm wavelength range peaked at 408 nm and a broad asymmetric emission band at around 483 nm in the wavelength range of 414–650 nm. Importantly, the cyan-emitting CLZA:1% Ce3+ phosphors possessed a luminescence efficiency of 58%. Notably, the CLZA:1% Ce3+ cyan phosphors allowed to fill the cyan gap between the blue and green emission bands in white LEDs, and the value of color rendering index could be enhanced from 82.3 to 89.2. This study provides new insights into designing and developing suitable efficient phosphors for high-color-quality solid-state white lighting.

A broadband cyan-emitting Ca 2 LuZr 2 (AlO 4 ) 3 :Ce 3+ garnet phosphor for near-ultraviolet-pumped warm-white light-emitting diodes with an improved color rendering index

Non-rare-earth Mn4+-doped double-perovskite (Ba1–xSrx)2YSbO6:Mn4+ red-emitting phosphors with adjustable photoluminescence are fabricated via traditional high-temperature sintering reaction. The structural evolution, variation of Mn4+ local environment, luminescent properties, and thermal quenching are studied systematically. With elevation of Sr2+ substituting content, the major diffraction peak moves up to a higher angle gradually. Impressively, with increasing the substitution of Ba2+ with Sr2+ cation from 0 to 100%, the emission band shifts to short-wavelength in a systematic way resulting from the higher transition energy from excited states to ground states. Besides, this blue-shift appearance can be illuminated adequately using the crystal field strength. Tunable Optical Properties and Enhanced Thermal Quenching of Non-Rare-Earth Double-Perovskite (Ba1–xSrx)2YSbO6:Mn4+ Red Phosphors Based on Composition Modulation

With admirable luminescence performance and a cheap price, non-rare-earth-based oxide red phosphors are a potential competitor of rare-earth-doped phosphors for warm white LEDs (WLEDs). Herein, a novel double-perovskite Ba2GdSbO6:Mn4+ phosphor, demonstrating strong red emission ascribed to a spin-forbidden Mn4+:2Eg → 4A2g transition in the region of 620-750 nm, has been synthesized via a solid-state reaction route. The microstructure and luminescence properties are investigated in detail. The concentration quenching mechanism and thermal stability based on thermal quenching characteristics are also discussed. Importantly, Li+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Si4+, Ti4+ and Ge4+ dopants are discovered to be beneficial for enhancing Mn4+ luminescence, and the related mechanisms are comprehensively described. In addition, by combining red-emitting Ba2GdSb0.994O6:0.003Mn4+,0.003Mg2+ with the commercial blue-emitting BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ and green-emitting Ba3La6(SiO4)6:Eu2+ phosphors in various ratios, a series of WLED devices with a tunable correlated color temperature (CCT) evolving from 6256 to 3486 K and a color rendering index (CRI) increasing from 72.1 to 88.3 are achieved.

Enhanced luminescence of a Ba2GdSbO6:Mn4+ red phosphor via cation doping for warm white light-emitting diodes.

Owing to its low-cost and satisfactory luminescent-emission performance in warm white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs), the non-rare-earth Mn4+-activated red phosphor has become a promising competitor of commercial rare-earth doped phosphor. In this study, a series of novel red-light emitting phosphors based on Ca2YSbO6:Mn4+ have been developed successfully by a conventional solid-state reaction. The structural and luminescent properties of these phosphors are systematically investigated. The as-prepared Ca2YSbO6:Mn4+ product exhibits a broad excitation band ranging from 250 to 600 nm and an abnormal intense deep-red emission centered at 680 nm with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of ∼46 nm. The optimal Mn4+ doping concentration is about 0.3 mol%, and the concentration quenching mechanism is determined to be a dipole–dipole interaction. Impressively, the Ca2YSbO6:0.003Mn4+ phosphor shows an outstanding quantum efficiency of 62.6% and an excellent thermal stability. In addition, the effect of Li+, Mg2+, Na+ and K+ dopants on the luminescent properties of Mn4+-doped Ca2YSbO6 phosphors is elucidated. Furthermore, by employing the as-prepared Ca2YSbO6:Mn4+ as a red component, a warm w-LED with high color rendering index (Ra = 87.5) and low correlated color temperature (CCT = 3255 K) can be acquired. It is believed that the present phosphor has a potential application as a supplement of the red component for warm w-LEDs.

Novel cyan‐emitting KBaScSi2O7:Eu2+ phosphors with ultrahigh quantum efficiency and excellent thermal stability for WLEDs

Highly efficient red-emitting Eu3+-doped double perovskite Ca2YSbO6 phosphors have been successfully prepared by the traditional high-temperature solid state method. The phase purity, photoluminescence and decay properties as a function of the Eu3+ concentration have been investigated in detail. The XRD results demonstrate that all of the obtained phosphors can be assigned to a pure monoclinic structure. Upon 464 nm excitation, a strong red emission situated at 614 nm (5D0–7F2) indicates that Eu3+ ions occupy a site with low symmetry. The quenching concentration of Eu3+ ions reaches as high as 70 mol% and the quenching mechanism is discussed. Especially, the prepared phosphor exhibits a high quantum efficiency of 92.1% and superior thermal stability, with PL intensity at 423 K up to 81.6% of that at room temperature. Moreover, a warm white light with a correlated color temperature of 4720 K and a color rendering index of 82.6 is achieved by fabricating a Ca2YSbO6:Eu3+ phosphor in a 460 nm blue-InGaN chip together with the commercial Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ yellow phosphor.
