Optimizing nitrogen fertilizer use for more grain and less pollution
Keyu Ren,Minggang Xu,Rong Li,Lei Zheng,Shaogui Liu,Stefan Reis,Huiying Wang,Changai Lu,Wenju Zhang,Hui Gao,Yinghua Duan,Baojing Gu +11 more
- 07 Apr 2021
TL;DR: In this paper, using 35,502 on-farm fertilization experiments, the authors demonstrated that smallholders in China could produce more grain with less N fertilizer use through optimizing N application rate.
Effect of replacing synthetic nitrogen fertilizer with animal manure on grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency in China: a meta‐analysis
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors performed a meta-analysis of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), maize (Zea mays L.), and rice (Oryza sativa L.) based on 118 published studies conducted in China.
Achieving high yield and nitrogen agronomic efficiency by coupling wheat varieties with soil fertility.
Keyu Ren,Minggang Xu,Rongqi Li,Lei Zheng,Hui-ying Wang,Sha Liu,Wenjun Zhang,Yinghua Duan,Chang’ai Lu +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a large-scale analysis of data from 12,925 field trials spanning ten years and including 229 wheat varieties, 5 N fertilizer treatments, and a range of soil fertility across China's major wheat production zones was conducted.

Response of maize yield and nitrogen recovery efficiency to nitrogen fertilizer application in field with various soil fertility
Hongqin Zou,Dejin Li,Keyu Ren,Lisheng Liu,Wenju Zhang,Yinghua Duan,Chang’ai Lu +6 more
TL;DR: The response of maize yield and nitrogen recovery efficiency to nitrogen fertilizer application in field with various soil fertility is influenced by the soil-plant-fertilizer system. The highest grain yield and nitrogen recovery efficiency were observed at moderate soil fertility and appropriate nitrogen fertilizer application rates.
