Hypertension: An Immune Disorder?
TL;DR: In this issue of Immunity, Carnevale et al. (2014) implicate PlGF signaling in a reservoir of splenic T cells and suggest that T cell depletion can prevent hypertension in experimental animals.

Peripheral tissue metabolism in man with varied disease states and similar weight loss
J. D. Albert,Adrian Legaspi,Glenn D. Horowitz,Kevin J. Tracey,Murray F. Brennan,Stephen F. Lowry +5 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that tumor-bearing patients are able to maintain their peripheral tissue protein sparing adaptation to nutritional depletion in the presence of accelerated glucose utilization, but clinically stable patients with benign disease do not demonstrate this adaptation and may be at greater risk for lean tissue dissolution than previously appreciated.

Methods and systems for reducing inflammation by neuromodulation and administration of an anti-inflammatory drug
Kevin J. Tracey,Mauricio Rosas-Ballina,Michael A. Faltys,Ralph Zitnik +3 more
- 11 Dec 2015
TL;DR: In this article, devices, systems and method of treating inflammation by vagus nerve stimulation and the delivery of an anti-inflammatory drug are described, including the steps of stimulating a subject's inflammatory reflex to inhibit the immune response and administering an anti inflammatory drug.

Transient Receptor Potential Ankyrin-1-expressing vagus nerve fibers mediate IL-1β induced hypothermia and reflex anti-inflammatory responses
Harold A. Silverman,Aisling Tynan,Tyler D. Hepler,Eric L. Chang,Manojkumar Gunasekaran,Jian Hua Li,Tomás S. Huerta,Tea Tsaava,Qing Chang,Meghan E. Addorisio,Adrian C Chen,Dane A. Thompson,Valentin A. Pavlov,Michael Barnes,Kevin J. Tracey,Sangeeta S. Chavan +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the role of TRPA1 during IL-1β-mediated neuronal activation was investigated, and it was shown that TRPA 1 signals in the afferent arm of a reflex anti-inflammatory response which inhibits cytokine release, induces hypothermia, and reduces the mortality of infection.

Anti-inflammatory compounds
Yousef Al-Abed,Kevin J. Tracey +1 more
- 07 Oct 2004
TL;DR: In this article, a method of treating a subject with an inflammatory cytokine-mediated disorder comprising administering to the subject a compound of Formulae (Ia) or (VIIa) was described.
