Physical and genetic map of the major nif gene cluster from Azotobacter vinelandii.
Marty R. Jacobson,Kevin E. Brigle,L T Bennett,Robert Setterquist,Mark S. Wilson,Valerie L. Cash,J Beynon,William E. Newton,Dennis R. Dean +8 more
TL;DR: Determination of a 28,793-base-pair DNA sequence of a region from the Azotobacter vinelandii genome that includes and flanks the nitrogenase structural gene region was completed and this information was used to revise the previously proposed organization of the major nif cluster.

Azotobacter vinelandii nifD- and nifE-encoded polypeptides share structural homology
Dennis R. Dean,Kevin E. Brigle +1 more
TL;DR: The structural homology is discussed with regard to the potential FeMo cofactor binding properties of these polypeptides and the possible role of a nifEN product complex as a surrogate MoFe protein.

Site-directed mutagenesis of the nitrogenase MoFe protein of Azotobacter vinelandii
Kevin E. Brigle,Robert Setterquist,Dennis R. Dean,John S. Cantwell,Mary C. Weiss,William E. Newton +5 more
TL;DR: Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis indicates that all mutants accumulate normal levels of the subunits of both nitrogenase component proteins and analyses should aid in the identification of metallocluster-binding sites and subunit-subunit interaction domains of the MoFe protein and also provide insight into the mechanistic roles of the various prosthetic groups in catalysis.
