BACKGROUND African American youth (aged 8-14 years) do not adhere to national dietary and physical activity guidelines. Nonadherence to these recommendations contributes to disproportionate rates of obesity compared with their white counterparts. Culturally tailored electronic health (eHealth) solutions are needed to communicate nutrition and physical activity messages that resonate with this target population. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to identify the impact of exposure to a website hosting culturally tailored cartoons to inspire fruit and vegetable uptake and physical activity levels in African American mother-child dyads. METHODS Statistical analysis included paired sample t tests to evaluate knowledge gains, self-efficacy, and readiness to change. Adapted items from Prochaska's Stages of Change toward the following 4 behaviors were assessed with pre- and posttest surveys: (1) fruit and vegetable selection on my plate, (2) meal preparation, (3) fruit and vegetable selection outside of home, and (4) physical activity. Open-ended comments on videos from mother-child dyads were used to determine user acceptance. Observations of repeated responses during content analysis informed coding and development of key themes. RESULTS A final sample size of 93 mother-child dyads completed the study. Mothers reported significant improvement from precontemplation or contemplation stages to preparation or action stages for (1) fruit and vegetable selection on her plate (P=.03), (2) meal preparation for her family (P=.01), (3) fruit and vegetable selection outside the home (P<.001), and (4) physical activity (P<.001). Significant improvements were found in knowledge, stage of change, and self-efficacy for the 4 target behaviors of interest (P<.001). Children's open-ended commentary reported vicarious learning and positive character identification with brown-skinned cartoons exhibiting healthful food and exercise behaviors. Mothers commented on the lack of accessible produce in their neighborhoods not depicted in the cartoon videos. CONCLUSIONS Culturally adapted cartoons that incorporate tailored preferences by African American families, such as race or demography, may help increase adherence to target health behaviors when developing eHealth behavior solutions.

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Culturally Tailored Website to Increase Fruit and Vegetable Intake and Physical Activity Levels in African American Mother-Child Dyads: Observational Study.

BACKGROUND
There are different surgical techniques to remove Oral mucoceles, including conventional surgery with scalpel, removal of the lesion with CO2 laser, and micro marsupialization. The present systematic review was conducted with the aim of comparing the recurrence rate of different surgical techniques for treatment of the oral mucoceles.


MATERIAL AND METHODS
An electronic search for randomized controlled trials published in English until September 2022 related to different surgical methods for the treatment of oral mucocele was performed in Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase and Cochrane databases. A random-effects meta-analysis was conducted to compare the recurrence rate of different techniques.


RESULTS
Among 1204 papers initially identified, after the removal of duplicate articles and screening of the titles and abstracts, fourteen full-text articles were reviewed. Seven articles comparing the recurrence rate of oral mucocele in different surgical techniques were found. Seven studies were included in qualitative studies, and five articles were included in the meta-analysis. The risk of mucocele recurrence in the micro-marsupialization technique was 1.30 times that of the surgical excision with scalpel technique, which was not statistically significant. The risk of mucocele recurrence in the CO2 Laser Vaporization technique was 0.60 times that of the Surgical Excision with Scalpel technique, which was not statistically significant.


CONCLUSIONS
The results of this systematic review showed that there is no significant difference between the recurrence rate of surgical excision, CO2 laser and marsupialization techniques for the treatment of oral mucoceles. Although more randomized clinical trials are needed for definitive results.

Comparison of the recurrence rate of different surgical techniques for oral mucocele: A systematic review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: The management of children's anxiety in dental offices is still a challenge for the treatment team. The most important factors which affect children's dental anxiety are the clinician-related factors and the physical factors of the dental operatory. Color is an environmental factor whose relationship with the perceptive and emotional factors of children has been reported. On the other hand, distraction is essential factors in a treatment environment that can be used to manage children's anxiety. Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical trial study, from 132 6 to 9 years of age children, 52.3% were male, and 47.7% were female, with a mean age of 7.45 ± 1.1 years. The children's anxiety levels were determined using the Venham Picture Test and pulse oximetry before and after the administration of local anesthesia. The children were randomly assigned to two groups (n = 66): Group 1, music, and Group 2, animated cartoons. The data were analyzed with SPSS 25, using descriptive statistics and the statistical tests consisting of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test, and repeated-measures ANOVA, followed by Tukey honestly significant difference tests. Statistical significance was set at P Results: The anxiety levels were the lowest in the blue and pink environments and the highest in the black and red. Anxiety levels between different colors in terms of physiologic markers and the questionnaire in each distraction technique at different intervals was significantly different. Conclusion: The use of blue, pink, green, and yellow for dentists' attire, and the interior design of the dental operatory decreased the child patients' anxiety.

Evaluation effect of color in dental office and dentist's uniform while using two different distraction techniques on injection anxiety of 6-9 years' old children referring to Hamedan Dental School: Randomized clinical trial.

Ranula is a limited mucus retention on the floor of mouth. Due to the young age of patients, over the years, attempts were made to find minimally invasive and effective surgical techniques. To date, however, there is still no gold standard. The modified micro-marsupialization is an effective and minimally invasive technique, with minimal risk of relapse, although there are very few reports about it.A 12-year-old male presented to our ENT Clinic with a rounded swelling with regular and defined margins, measuring 4x3 cm, soft and painless, non-compressible and bluish. Clinical diagnosis of ranula was made and a modified micro-marsupialization was performed: eight interrupted sutures using silk 3-0 were placed perpendicularly to the major axis of the lesion, from one side of the lesion to the other, without reaching the underlying tissue. No sutures were lost during follow-up, no complications occurred. Complete healing was reached after removing sutures on the 30th postoperative day. At 6 months control no relapse was observed.Modified micro-marsupialization is strongly indicated and recommended, especially in pediatric patient, due to its low invasiveness and its very low relapse rate. The poor case history found in the literature is probably an indication of the lack of knowledge of modified micro-marsupialization which, in our opinion, could be considered the gold standard. 

Ranula: Modified Micro-Marsupialization: Case Report and Review of Literature.

Introducao: O termo rânula e usado para descrever um aumento de volume difuso no assoalho da boca causado por um extravasamento mucoso ou um cisto de retencao de muco derivado das principais glândulas salivares sublinguais ou submandibulares. A rânula pode ser simples ou mergulhante, quando a pressao do fluido disseca atraves do musculo milo-hioideo para o espaco submandibular. Objetivo: Relatar um caso de rânula mergulhante extensa em paciente pediatrico tratado por micromarsupializacao. Relato de caso: Crianca do sexo masculino compareceu ao Hospital da Restauracao, Recife (PE), com queixa de tumefacao intraoral, submentual e submandibular esquerda com evolucao de uma semana. Observou-se extenso aumento de volume em regiao de soalho bucal de cor azulada, textura lisa e com foco central ulcerado. Com base nos aspectos clinicos e imaginologicos e na historia da doenca, o diagnostico de rânula mergulhante foi realizado. Optou-se pela tecnica de micromarsupializacao, sob anestesia local, com utilizacao de fio reabsorvivel a base de poliglactina. Paciente segue em acompanhamento de seis meses, sem sinais de recidiva da lesao. Conclusao: Visando a um procedimento mais simples e de baixa morbidade, a micromarsupializacao mostra-se uma alternativa de tratamento viavel e com bons resultados quando bem indicada, principalmente em criancas.

Objective: This study evaluated the association between colors and emotions in a pediatric dental population. Study design: In this randomized cross-sectional study, 100 children aged 6–12 years were categorized as non-anxious and anxious using Corah's Dental Anxiety Scale–Revised. They were then instructed to color two cartoon faces, one depicting happiness emotion and the other, sadness, with any of six colors provided. Data obtained were statistically analyzed. Results: The mean Corah's Dental Anxiety scores were 11.7 and 4.97 for the anxious and non-anxious children, respectively. Both groups expressed the highest preference for the color yellow for happiness emotion. Ranulas pose a challenging situation, both clinically and surgically, because of their location on the floor of the mouth, an area that exhibits tightly-netted vital structures. Several treatments have been proposed, including excision with or without removal of the sublingual gland, marsupialization with or without cauterization of the roof of the lesion, drainage of the lesion, and micro-marsupialization. It has been suggested that a modified micro-marsupialization technique can establish drainage of saliva and formation of new permanent epithelized tracts along the path of sutures, thereby reducing the recurrence. This paper presents a report of a ranula in a 12 year-old child that was successfully managed using a modified micro-marsupialization procedure.
