Chondroprotective effects of 4-methylumbelliferone and hyaluronan synthase-2 overexpression involve changes in chondrocyte energy metabolism
Kenya Terabe,Yoshifumi Ohashi,Saho Tsuchiya,Shinya Ishizuka,Cheryl B. Knudson,Warren Knudson +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that fluxes in UDP-hexoses alter metabolic energy pathways in cartilage and is associated with the mechanism of 4MU-mediated pro-catabolic inhibition.

Study protocol of a multicenter registry of patients with rheumatoid arthritis starting biologic therapy in Japan : Tsurumai Biologics Communication Registry (TBCR) Study
Toshihisa Kojima,Atsushi Kaneko,Yuji Hirano,Hisato Ishikawa,Hiroyuki Miyake,Takeshi Oguchi,Hideki Takagi,Yuichiro Yabe,Takefumi Kato,Takayasu Ito,Kenya Terabe,Naoki Fukaya,Yasuhide Kanayama,Tomone Shioura,Koji Funahashi,Masatoshi Hayashi,Daizo Kato,H. Matsubara,Takayoshi Fujibayashi,Masayo Kojima,Naoki Ishiguro +20 more
TL;DR: Differences in baseline characteristics by age and initiation year of biologics need to be carefully evaluated in order to report on drug-related survival and long-term prognosis, using follow-up data in the near future.

Monitoring C-reactive protein levels to predict favourable clinical outcomes from tocilizumab treatment in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Toshihisa Kojima,Yuichiro Yabe,Atsushi Kaneko,Yuji Hirano,Hisato Ishikawa,Masatoshi Hayashi,Hiroyuki Miyake,Hideki Takagi,Takefumi Kato,Kenya Terabe,Tsuyoshi Wanatabe,Hiroki Tsuchiya,Daihei Kida,Tomone Shioura,Koji Funahashi,Daizo Kato,H. Matsubara,Nobunori Takahashi,Yosuke Hattori,Nobuyuki Asai,Naoki Ishiguro +20 more
TL;DR: Adequate suppression of pathological IL-6 signalling during TCZ treatment improves clinical outcomes and can be monitored with serum CRP levels, a readily available biomarker in clinical practice.

Metabolic reprogramming in chondrocytes to promote mitochondrial respiration reduces downstream features of osteoarthritis.
Yoshifumi Ohashi,Nobunori Takahashi,Kenya Terabe,Saho Tsuchiya,Toshihisa Kojima,Cheryl B. Knudson,Warren Knudson,Shiro Imagama +7 more
TL;DR: Targeting intermediary metabolism may provide a novel approach to osteoarthritis care through substitution of galactose for glucose in culture media to promote a renewed dependence on mitochondrial respiration and oxidative phosphorylation.
Longterm Efficacy and Safety of Abatacept in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated in Routine Clinical Practice: Effect of Concomitant Methotrexate after 24 Weeks
Nobunori Takahashi,Toshihisa Kojima,Atsushi Kaneko,Daihei Kida,Yuji Hirano,Takayoshi Fujibayashi,Yuichiro Yabe,Hideki Takagi,Takeshi Oguchi,Hiroyuki Miyake,Takefumi Kato,Tsuyoshi Watanabe,Masatoshi Hayashi,Yasuhide Kanayama,Koji Funahashi,Shuji Asai,Yutaka Yoshioka,Toki Takemoto,Kenya Terabe,Nobuyuki Asai,Naoki Ishiguro +20 more
TL;DR: In routine clinical practice, ABA demonstrated satisfactory clinical efficacy and safety in patients with established RA for 52 weeks and the clinical efficacy of ABA increased with time even after 24 weeks, and this was strongly influenced by concomitant MTX use.
