Validity of Acute Stroke Lesion Volume Estimation by Diffusion-Weighted Imaging–Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomographic Score Depends on Lesion Location in 496 Patients With Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke
Julian Schröder,Bastian Cheng,Martin Ebinger,Martin Köhrmann,Ona Wu,Dong-Wha Kang,David S Liebeskind,Thomas Tourdias,Oliver C. Singer,Soren Christensen,Bruce C.V. Campbell,Marie Luby,Steven Warach,Jens Fiehler,Jochen B. Fiebach,Christian Gerloff,Götz Thomalla,Gregory W. Albers,Stephen N. Davis,Geoffrey A. Donnan,Marc Fisher,Anthony J. Furlan,James C. Kim,Lorenz Breuer,András Treszl,Nils D. Forkert,Ivana Galinovic,Michael Rosenkranz,Tobias Engelhorn,Matthias Endres,Vincent Dousset +41 more
TL;DR: ASPECTS may be a useful tool for the evaluation of noncontrast computed tomography, however, if MRI is used, ASPECTS seems dispensable because lesion volume can easily be quantified on DWI maps.

A recognition tool for transient ischaemic attack
Jesse Dawson,Karen E. Lamb,Terence J. Quinn,Kennedy R. Lees,M. Horvers,M.J. Verrijth,Matthew Walters +6 more
TL;DR: This simple scoring system performs well and could be used to facilitate accurate detection of TIA and is confirmed during prospective validation.
Effects of Magnesium Treatment in a Model of Internal Capsule Lesion in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
Clotilde Lecrux,Christopher McCabe,Christopher J. Weir,Lindsay Gallagher,Jim Mullin,Omar Touzani,Keith W. Muir,Kennedy R. Lees,I. Mhairi Macrae +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that ET-1–induced internal capsule ischemia in spontaneously hypertensive rats represents a good model of lacunar infarct with small lesion size, minimal adverse effects, and a measurable motor deficit, supporting its potential utility for the treatment of Lacunar Infarct.

Independent preoperative predictors of outcomes in orthopedic and vascular surgery: the influence of time interval between an acute coronary syndrome or stroke and the operation.
Robert D. Sanders,Alex Bottle,Simon S. Jameson,Abdul Mozid,Paul Aylin,Lliam Edger,Daqing Ma,Mike R. Reed,Matthew Walters,Kennedy R. Lees,Mervyn Maze +10 more
TL;DR: Previous stroke and ACS increased the odds of perioperative mortality from THKR but not AAA surgery; THKR surgery conducted up to 12 months after an ACS was associated with increased mortality.

Dose-ranging study of the angiotensin type I receptor antagonist losartan (DuP753/MK954), in salt-deplete normal man.
TL;DR: The results indicate a BP and plasma renin dose-response relation for the orally active angiotensin II (AII) receptor blocker losartan in normotensive subjects with an activated RAS.
