TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed two-dimensional diagnostics for steady-state plasma in the large helical device (LHD) through domestic and international collaborations, including tangential cameras (fast SX TV, photon counting CCD, Hα TV); tomography (tangential SX CCD); imaging (bolometer, ECE, reflectometer).
Initial Results of Local Island Divertor Experiments in the Large Helical Device
Akio Komori,Tomohiro Morisaki,Suguru Masuzaki,Mamoru Shoji,Nobuyoshi Ohyabu,Hiroshi Yamada,Kenji Tanaka,Kazuo Kawahata,Kazumichi Narihara,Shigeru Morita,Byron J. Peterson,Ryuichi Sakamoto,Satoru Sakakibara,Osamu Motojima,Hajime Suzuki +14 more
TL;DR: A local island divertor (LID) experiment has begun in the Large Helical Device (LHD) to demonstrate improved plasma confinement, and fundamental LID functions were demonstrated in the sixth experimental campaign in 2002-2003.

TL;DR: In this article, a heavy ion beam probe (HIBP) was used to measure the potential in a large Helical Device (LHD) for probing beam, which is accelerated by a tandem accelerator up to 6 MeV.

TL;DR: The bifurcated nature of the potential profile of a toroidal helical plasma was investigated in CHS using a heavy ion beam probe as discussed by the authors, which revealed that three main branches of potential profile exist in ECR heated plasmas with a low density of e? 0.5? 1019m-3.

Configuration Effects on Local Transport in High-Beta LHD Plasmas
Hisamichi Funaba,Kiyomasa Watanabe,Sadayoshi Murakami,Satoru Sakakibara,Hiroshi Yamada,Kazumichi Narihara,Ichihiro Yamada,Kenji Tanaka,Tokihiko Tokuzawa,Masaki Osakabe,Junichi Miyazawa,Masayuki Yokoyama,Kazuo Kawahata +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the local transport characteristics in high-beta plasmas were studied by considering the change in the major radius of the magnetic flux surface with the beta value, and it was confirmed that the dependence of local transport properties on the magnetic configuration is almost the same as that proposed in the ISS04 scaling in the entire plasma region.
