TL;DR: It is contended that the best that can be hoped for in mega-site management is an acceptable solution for the current state of affairs, with good flexibility to modify strategies as new site conditions, remediation possibilities, community preferences and management objectives develop over time.

Contaminated mega-site management: The complex problem challenge
TL;DR: In this article, a broader risk management approach is proposed for mega-sites with complex socio-ecological interactions that cannot easily be analysed or their influences predicted, and a project planning approach is extended to include stakeholder involvement in the design of anticipative post-closure coping strategies.
