Cryopreservation of four valuable strains of microalgae, including viability and characteristics during 15 years of cryostorage
TL;DR: The present study demonstrates the advantage of cryopreservation using liquid nitrogen and expects that this method will contribute to both basic and applied biology through the establishment ofcryopreserved microalgal culture collections.

Effect of water flow velocity on growth and morphology of cultured Undaria pinnatifida sporophytes (Laminariales, Phaeophyceae) in Okirai Bay on the Sanriku coast, Northeast Japan
TL;DR: Results show the significant impact of water flow velocity on the growth and morphology ofUndaria pinnatifida sporophytes at the commercial cultivation site and the uncultivated site protected from water action of Okirai Bay, Northeast Japan.
43
Algicidal activity of glycerolipids from brown alga Ishige sinicola toward red tide microalgae.
TL;DR: These glycerolipids showed moderate-to-high cell lysis activity against the red tide microalgal species, Heterosigma akashiwo, Karenia mikimotoi and Alexandrium catenella, at a concentration of 20 μg/mL.

Cryopreservation of the gametophytic cells of laminariales (Phaeophyta) in liquid nitrogen
TL;DR: The gametophytic cells of six species of Laminariales, Laminaria japonica Areschoug, L. longissima Miyabe, Kjellmaniella crassifolia Miyabe and Ecklonia stolonifera Okamura, and Undaria pinnatifida (Harvey) Suringar were subjected to cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen and the percentage viability of all strains began to increase due to the renewal of cell division.

Sexuality and uniparental inheritance of chloroplast dna in the isogamous green alga ulva compressa (ulvophyceae)(1).
TL;DR: Investigation of the relationship between gamete size and the inheritance of chloroplast DNA in Ulva compressa L. is a heterothallic macroalga found that preferential digestion of the cpDNA in the zygote’s mt− gamete may form the basis for uniparental inheritance of cpDNA.
