Nanoparticulate perovskite-type LnBO 3 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu; B = Cr, Fe) oxides are prepared by polyol-mediated synthesis. X-ray diffraction is used to confirm the structure of the materials, and scanning electron microscopy is applied to image the sample morphology. The powders are used for the preparation of suspensions that are deposited as thick films on comb-type Pt electrodes on alumina substrates. Electrical characterization is performed by using high-throughput impedance spectroscopy. The materials exhibit p-type semiconductor behavior, and their sensitivity towards H 2 , CO, NO, NO 2 , and propylene in a temperature range from 200 to 500°C is analyzed. In addition, the time-resolved response of the LnFeO 3 materials is investigated. A correlation between the Ln-O binding energy and the sensing properties is observed.

Preparation and Gas Sensing Characteristics of Nanoparticulate p‐Type Semiconducting LnFeO3 and LnCrO3 Materials

Preparation, surface state and band structure studies of SrTi(1 − x)Fe(x)O(3 − δ) (x = 0–1) perovskite-type nano structure by X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy

The temperature dependence of the dc magnetization and the specific heat capacity are systematically investigated for the perovskite YbCrO3 chromites. The results show that there exist two complex sequences of magnetic transitions with the characteristics of magnetization reversal and Yb3+/Cr3+ spin ordering at different temperature, respectively. The antiferromagneticlike transition around TN=118 K is attributed to the antiferromagnetic ordering of the Cr3+ spins and a negative magnetization, accompanied with a tendency to the plateau below 10 K caused by the Yb3+ ordering. We obtain the Weiss constant of −197.0 K and an effective moment of 5.99μB for the sum of the free ion values of 4.53μB for Yb3+ and 3.87μB for high-spin Cr3+ from the experiments, which shows an antiferromagnetic interaction and the existence of weak canted antiferromagnetic (CAFM) characteristics. Magnetization reversal and Yb3+/Cr3+ spin ordering at low temperature for perovskite YbCrO3 chromites

Perovskite-type LnMO 3 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu; M = Cr, Fe) oxides were prepared by the polyol mediated synthesis. Thick films of the prepared materials were electrically characterised using high throughput impedance spectroscopy (HT-IS). All samples showed p-type semiconductivity. Ethanol and propylene were used to test the gas sensing behaviour in a temperature range from 200 to 500 °C. A correlation between the (Ln–O) binding energy and the sensing properties is observed.

Magnetic properties of rare earth HoCrO3 chromites

Various kinds of magneto-optical properties are investigated in rare earth orthochromites. From an analysis of Cr3+ exciton absorption in RCrO3 (R=Tb, Dy, and Ho), it is unferred that these compounds exhibit an anomalous spin-reorientation in a magnetic field along the b axis, where the weak ferromagnetic moment of the Cr3+ spins rotates in the ac plane perpendicular to the b axis. In these compounds, when the R3+ spin configuration is disordered, an anomalous satellite band appears on the lower-energy side of the Cr3+ exciton absorption, which is associated with the breakdown of the k=0 selection rule due to the disorder of the R3+ spin configuration. In YbCrO3, various kinds of cooperative excitations, such as a Cr3+ exciton coupled with an Yb3+ magnon and a Cr3+−Yb3+ exciton molecule, which are induced by the antisymmetric exchange interaction between the Cr3+ and Yb3+ spins, appear in the visible region.
