HPV-related anal cancer is associated with changes in the anorectal microbiome during cancer development
Jacob H. Elnaggar,Daniel Lin,R. Tyler Hillman,Chike O. Abana,Molly B. El Alam,K. Tomasic,Tatiana Karpinets,Ramez Kouzy,Jae Phan,Jennifer A. Wargo,Emma B. Holliday,Prajnan Das,Melissa Paola Mezzari,Nadim J. Ajami,Erica Lynn,Bruce D. Minsky,Dan Morris,Andrea Milbourne,Craig A. Messick,Ann H. Klopp,P. Andrew Futreal,Cullen M. Taniguchi,Kathleen M. Schmeler,Lauren E. Colbert +23 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors identify differences in anal microbiome composition in the settings of HPV infection, anal dysplasia, and anal cancer in this rare disease and investigate the potential role of the microbiome analysis in screening for anal cancer and investigation into potential mechanisms of how these microbial imbalance influence the immune system and anal carcinogenesis.
Cancer-associated Lactobacillus iners are genetically distinct and associated with chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

TL;DR: A novel pathotype of cervical cancer-associated Lactobacillus iners is identified that results in chemoradiation resistance in vitro and is associated with poor patient survival and a strong association between poor clinical response to CRT and tumors dominated by L. iners.

Characterization of the Tumor-Associated Microbiome Landscapes of HPV-Related Anogenital Cancers
Molly B. El Alam,K. Tomasic,David Lin,Tatiana Karpinets,Erica Lynn,Adilene Olvera,Nadim J. Ajami,L.L. Lin,Anuja Jhingran,Patricia J. Eifel,Melissa M Joyner,Pablo C. Okhuysen,Cullen M. Taniguchi,Ann H. Klopp,Lauren E. Colbert +14 more
TL;DR: In this article , the differences between the tumor-associated microbiome landscapes of patients diagnosed with HPV-related anogenital cancers were explored, and the results showed that the tumor microbiomes of each cancer differ significantly from each other and have distinct reactions to CRT.
Tumor Microbiome Composition in Vaginal and Vulvar Cancers during Chemoradiation
K. Tomasic,Molly B. El Alam,David Lin,Tatiana Karpinets,Erica Lynn,Adilene Olvera,Nadim J. Ajami,L.L. Lin,Anuja Jhingran,Patricia J. Eifel,Melissa M Joyner,Pablo C. Okhuysen,Cullen M. Taniguchi,Ann H. Klopp,Lauren E. Colbert +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors explored the composition of the tumor microbiome in vaginal and vulvar cancers during and after chemoradiation (CRT) treatment, and found that the richness of vulvar and vaginal samples remained stable during CRT.
