Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 133

The nucleon-pair shell model truncated to the $S\ensuremath{-}D$ subspace is applied to the barium isotopes ${}^{130}{\mathrm{Ba}--}^{136}\mathrm{Ba}.$ The effects of the single-particle energy splitting on collectivities are examined. The main features of the low-lying collective states of the nuclei, especially for nuclei with a larger number of pairs, are well reproduced by a shell model Hamiltonian with three parameters.

Shell model calculation in the S − D subspace

Excited states of $^{132}\mathrm{Ba}$ were studied in an experiment utilizing the $^{124}\mathrm{Sn}$${(}^{13}$C,5n) reaction at a beam energy of 65.5 MeV. The level scheme of $^{132}\mathrm{Ba}$ was considerably extended from what was previously known. Evidence is presented for neutron ${\mathit{h}}_{11/2}$ alignments, which are predicted to drive the nucleus to a shape with \ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\approxeq}-80\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}. Two strongly coupled \ensuremath{\Delta}I=1 bands were also observed.

Band structures in Ba 132

Backbending phenomena and low-lying collective states in the nucleus ${}^{132}\mathrm{Ba}$ are studied in terms of a pair-truncated shell model with the monopole and quadrupole pairing plus quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The model reproduces well experimental energy levels, transition rates, and g factors for both low-lying states and those around the backbending region. The collective pair truncation of the shell-model space yields remarkable results for low-lying states, and the alignment of two ${0h}_{11/2}$ neutrons plays a decisive role in describing the backbending.

Pair-truncated shell-model approach to backbending and low-lying states in 132 Ba

High-spin states in the $^{133}\mathrm{Ba}$ nucleus have been populated using the $^{124}\mathrm{Sn}$${(}^{13}$C,4n) reaction. Excited states were observed up to I=45/2 and several bands were constructed. Most of the observed bands are characterized by intense dipole transitions. At low spin, bands built on mixed \ensuremath{\nu}${\mathit{s}}_{1/2}$ and \ensuremath{\nu}${\mathit{d}}_{3/2}$ configurations and on the \ensuremath{\nu}${\mathit{h}}_{11/2}$ configuration were observed. The latter band is associated with a large signature splitting of about 300 keV. According to total Routhian surface calculations, in this band the nucleus has a triaxial shape with \ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\approxeq}-80\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}. At higher spin, bands built on three- and five-quasiparticle configurations were identified. These bands may possess a weakly deformed shape with either \ensuremath{\gamma}g0\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} or \ensuremath{\gamma}-60\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}, depending on the number of ${\mathit{h}}_{11/2}$ protons and neutrons involved in the configuration.
