Breakup reactions of light and medium mass neutron drip line nuclei

The isotope dependence of measured reaction cross sections in the scattering of {sup 28-32}Ne isotopes from a {sup 12}C target at 240 MeV/nucleon is analyzed by the double-folding model with the Melbourne g matrix. The density of the projectile is calculated by the mean-field model with the deformed Woods-Saxon potential. The deformation is evaluated by antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The deformation of the projectile enhances calculated reaction cross sections to the measured values.

Deformation Effect on Total Reaction Cross Sections for Neutron-Rich Ne-Isotopes(YKIS2011 papers, Frontier Issues in Physics of Exotic Nuclei)

We have studied the ground state properties (binding energy and charge radius) using relativistic mean filed formalism (RMF) for Mg-isotopes in the valley of stability to drip line region. The RMF densities have been analyzed in context of reaction dynamics. The calculated results of $^{24-40}$Mg+$^{12}$C reactions at projectile energy 240 AMeV using Glauber model with the conjunction of densities from relativistic mean field formalism are compared with experimental data. We found remarkable agreement of estimated values of reaction cross sections with experimental data except for $^{37}$Mg isotope. In view of this, the halo status of $^{37}$Mg is examined through higher magnitude of rms radius and small value of longitudinal momentum distribution. Finally, an effort is made to explore the structure of $^{37}$Mg halo candidate using Glauber few body formalism.

Search for halo structure in 37 Mg using the Glauber model and microscopic relativistic mean-field densities

We present a systematic analysis of the total reaction cross sections of light unstable nuclei, Ne and Mg isotopes on a ^12C target with the Glauber model. The density distributions for protons and neutrons are generated by the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method in the three-dimensional coordinate space. The calculated total reaction cross sections consistently agree with the very recent total and interaction cross section data of neutron-rich Ne and Mg isotopes, reflecting the large nuclear deformation in the island of inversion. However, we cannot explain the large cross sections of ^31Ne and ^37Mg. This may imply necessities to go beyond the adopted approximations such as the filling calculation for odd nuclei.

Systematic Analysis of Total Reaction Cross Sections of Unstable Nuclei with Glauber Theory

We study antihalo effects on reaction cross sections ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\mathrm{R}}$ for $^{14,15,16}\mathrm{C}$ scattering from a $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ target at 83 MeV/nucleon, using the $g$-matrix double-folding model. $^{15}\mathrm{C}$ is described by the ${}^{14}\mathrm{C}+n$ two-body model that reproduces the measured large $s$-wave spectroscopic factor, i.e., the shell inversion that the $1{s}_{1/2}$ orbital is lower than the $0{d}_{5/2}$ orbital in energy. $^{16}\mathrm{C}$ is described by the ${}^{14}\mathrm{C}+n+n$ three-body model with the phenomenological three-body force (3BF) that explains the measured small $s$-wave spectroscopic factor. The 3BF allows the single-particle energies of the ${}^{14}\mathrm{C}+n$ subsystem to depend on the position $r$ of the second neutron from the center of mass of the subsystem. The $1{s}_{1/2}$ orbital is lower than the $0{d}_{5/2}$ orbital for large $r$, but the shell inversion is restored for small $r$. Antihalo effects due to the ``partial shell inversion'' make ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\mathrm{R}}$ for $^{16}\mathrm{C}$ smaller than that for $^{15}\mathrm{C}$. We also investigate projectile breakup effects on the mass-number dependence of ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{\mathrm{R}}$ with the continuum-discretized coupled-channel method.

Reaction cross sections ( R) for 24 38 Mg on C targets at the energies of around 240 MeV/ nucleon have been measured precisely at RIBF, RIKEN for the purpose of obtaining the crucial information on the changes of nuclear structure in unstable nuclei, especially around the so-called "island of inversion" region In the island of inversion region, which includes neutron-rich Ne, Na, and Mg isotopes, the vanishing of the N = 20 magic number for neutrons have been discussed along with nuclear deformation The present result suggest deformation features of Mg isotopes and shows a large cross section of weakly-bound nucleus 37 Mg, which could be caused by a neutron halo formation
