Background: High blood pressure (BP) is often an underdiagnosed problem, because of the asymptomatic nature in early phases of onset during adolescence. This increases the chances of developing complications later during adult life. Objective: The objective of this study was to find the relationship of BP with anthropometric measurements among school-going adolescent boys. Materials and Methods: It was a cross-sectional study conducted among 894 adolescent schoolboys aged 13 to 18 years from July 2013 to October 2014 in schools of Burdwan Municipal area, West Bengal. The required number of students from each school was determined by proportional probability sampling. Then, the required number of students from each school was selected by systematic random sampling technique. BP and anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, and waist circumference were done using standard guidelines. Results: The mean systolic and mean diastolic BP in the study participants was significantly higher with an increase in weight, height, waist circumference, and body mass index (BMI) (P < 0.05). BP was found to be positively correlated with different anthropometric measurements such as weight, height, waist circumference, and BMI, which were statistically significant. Conclusion: Early detection of high BP and application of lifestyle modification among adolescents will be helpful in reducing the burden of high BP in adult life.

An Epidemiological Study of Blood Pressure and Its Relation with Anthropometric Measurements among Schoolboys of Burdwan Municipal Area, West Bengal.

Food security and food self-sufficiency have been a significant challenge and an important target for developing and underdeveloped nations around the planet. One of the most important target groups that does suffer from nutritional challenges in developing and underdeveloped nations are school-going children. Many of them are impacted with issues such as undernutrition and malnutrition due to several socioeconomic parameters such as education and awareness, as well as their economic and social status. The current review attempts to provide an overall picture of the nutrition related challenges of school-going children from the perspective of developing and underdeveloped nations.

But they have been replaced by disease like high blood pressure, obesity, and coronary heart disease attributed to faulty and sedentary life style associated with industrialization, urbanization, economic development and market globalization. This combination of unhealthy diet and lifestyle is having a significant impact on the health and nutritional status of population, particularly in developing countries and countries in transition. Methodology: The present study was carried out in the department of physiology, Amaltas institute of medical sciences Dewas (M.P.). We have selected the 250 individuals of age groups 14 to 25 years. A randomized cross sectional non interventional study was performed. Data thus obtained were analyzed by Chi square test with the help of SPSS-20 (software Package used for Statistical Analysis) software for statistical analysis. Results: The results of the present study showed that there was a significant association of Waist circumference with Systolic Blood pressure on both male as well as female students. Significant linear association of Waist Hip Ratio with blood pressure in males only, while in females Waist Hip Ratio failed to show association with blood pressure.

To Study the Relationship of Waist Circumference and Waist Hip Ratio with Blood Pressure in Medical Students

On average, older adults tend to have more body fat than younger adults for an equivalent BMI. Hence, few works have been carried out on the areas of relationship between Body Mass Index and Hypertension. Therefore, this research is carried out to review the relationship between Body Mass Index and patients with high Blood Pressure at Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital kano state using regression and correlation analyses. The result shows that the conditions of patients with high blood pressure are worsened by excess weight, also the relationship between body mass and systolic and that of diastolic blood pressure were assed to be strong and fairly weak respectively.

Reviewing of the Relationship Between Body Mass Index and High Blood Pressure of Patients

Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) are considered as the most important anthropometric indicators to investigate the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and other obesity-related diseases. This study assessed the relationship between blood pressure (BP) with BMI and WC in students (aged 8 - 16 years) of rural West Bengal (WB) in Eastern India. About 551 rural secondary school going students were surveyed for BP, height, weight and WC. Among them 283 were boys and 268 were girls. BMI was derived using standard formula; Pearsons’ correlation coefficient was done to assess the degree of correlation among BP with BMI and WC. A lower range of obesity was found in rural areas in both boys and girls. WC was found to be more correlated with BP than BMI. Increase of BP was found with a higher BMI and WC.
