Quasi-steady plasma acceleration.
K. E. Clark,Robert G. Jahn +1 more
TL;DR: The application of quasi-steady state plasma acceleration to development of pulsed plasma jet engines has been investigated in this article, where the authors propose an approach to accelerate pulsed plasmas.

Measured performance of a multimegawatt MPD thruster
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the impulse bit per pulse on a swinging gate thrust stand in a dielectric vacuum tank at a background pressure of 10 ~ Torr and found that the impulse scale quadratically with arc current and confirm previous estimates of the electromagnetic and electrothermal components of thrust from magnetic and pressure probe measurements.

Physical Processes in Hollow Cathodes
TL;DR: In this article, a spontaneous mode of hollow cathode operation at discharge currents from 0.25 kA to 30 kA was achieved for particular combinations of discharge current and mass flows.

Flowfield Characteristics and Perf ormance Limitations of Quasi-Steady Magnetoplasmadynamic Accelerators
TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-steady MPD arc operating over a range of currents from 3 to 25 kA was investigated, and the significant thrust producing mechanisms in such arcs were identified.

Acceleration patterns in quasi-steady MPD arcs
TL;DR: In this paper, a quasi-steady coaxial MPD arc was used to study ar ion velocities, electrostatic ion acceleration mechanism and arc voltage gradient, and the arc voltage gradients.
