Structural studies on exopolysaccharides produced by three different propionibacteria strains
TL;DR: All three exopolysaccharides produced by three propionibacteria strains contain the same branched, pentasaccharide repeating unit, according to methylation analysis, mass spectrometry, partial acid hydrolysis, and NMR studies.

Structure determination of the exopolysaccharide of Lactobacillus fermentum TDS030603—A revision
Gerrit J. Gerwig,Justyna M. Dobruchowska,Tala Shi,Tadasu Urashima,Kenji Fukuda,Johannis P. Kamerling +5 more
TL;DR: The highly viscous neutral exopolysaccharide, produced in large amounts by Lactobacillus fermentum TDS030603 in MRS broth and in a chemically defined medium supplemented with glucose, was investigated by GLC(-EIMS) monosaccharide and methylation analysis, periodate oxidation, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, and 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy.

Exploring novel non-Leloir β-glucosyltransferases from proteobacteria for modifying linear (β1->3)-linked gluco-oligosaccharide chains
Gudmundur O. Hreggvidsson,Justyna M. Dobruchowska,Olafur H. Fridjonsson,Jón Örvar G. Jónsson,Gerrit J. Gerwig,Arnthor Aevarsson,Jakob K. Kristjansson,Delphine Curti,Robert R. Redgwell,Carl-Eric Hansen,Johannis P. Kamerling,Takoua Debeche-Boukhit +11 more
TL;DR: The cloning and expression of genes encoding β-glucosyltransferase domains of glycosyl hydrolase family GH17 from three species of proteobacteria are described and three recombinant enzymes on linear (β1 → 3)-linked gluco-oligosaccharides and their corresponding alditols was studied.

Characterization of the starvation-induced chitinase CfcA and α-1,3-glucanase AgnB of Aspergillus niger
Jolanda M. van Munster,Jolanda M. van Munster,Justyna M. Dobruchowska,Ruud Veloo,Lubbert Dijkhuizen,Marc J. E. C. van der Maarel +5 more
TL;DR: Cell wall degradation during carbon starvation was reduced in the double deletion mutant ΔcfcA ΔagnB compared to the wild-type strain, and CfcA thus may be a candidate effector for on demand cell lysis, which could be employed in industrial processes for recovery of intracellular products.

An atypical lipoteichoic acid from Clostridium perfringens elicits a broadly cross-reactive and protective immune response
Cory Q. Wenzel,Dominic C. Mills,Justyna M. Dobruchowska,Jiri Vlach,Harald Nothaft,Patrick N. Nation,Parastoo Azadi,Stephen B. Melville,Russell W. Carlson,Mario F. Feldman,Christine M. Szymanski +10 more
TL;DR: An immunoreactive antigen that was lost in a putative glycosyltransferase mutant is identified, suggesting that this antigen is likely a glycoconjugate, and HN13 LTA is an attractive target for future vaccine-development studies.
