The development of modern information technology has led to significant demand for microoptical elements with complex surface profiles and nanoscale surface roughness. Therefore, various micro- and nanoprocessing techniques are used to fabricate microoptical elements and systems. Femtosecond laser direct writing (FsLDW) uses ultrafast pulses and the ultraintense instantaneous energy of a femtosecond laser for micro-nano fabrication. FsLDW exhibits various excellent properties, including nonlinear multiphoton absorption, high-precision processing beyond the diffraction limit, and the universality of processable materials, demonstrating its unique advantages and potential applications in three-dimensional (3D) micro-nano manufacturing. FsLDW has demonstrated its value in the fabrication of various microoptical systems. This study details three typical principles of FsLDW, several design considerations to improve processing performance, processable materials, imaging/nonimaging microoptical elements, and their stereoscopic systems. Finally, a summary and perspective on the future research directions for FsLDW-enabled microoptical elements and stereoscopic systems are provided.

Imaging/nonimaging microoptical elements and stereoscopic systems based on femtosecond laser direct writing

Abstract The optical element is a key part of manufacturing optoelectronic systems, which can realize functions such as imaging, spectroscopy, image transmission, filtering, and more. The design and manufacture of optical elements is a key issue that restricts its development, and the traditional optical component preparation method is less capable of preparing optical elements with complex structures and multiple materials. As a mature advanced manufacturing technology, photopolymerization 3D printing technology has the advantages of high printing precision and small layer thickness, which plays an important role in the preparation of optical elements. This review paper briefly provides a concise overview of the benefits and applications of photopolymerization 3D printing technology in optical element preparation The development overview and research progress of materials used for the preparation of optical elements by photopolymerization 3D printing are discussed. Finally, it summarizes the current limitations, challenges, future development prospects, and potential applications in the realm of optical element manufacturing. 

Photopolymerized 3D Printing Materials for Optical Elements

This paper presents the findings of radio wave characterization based on the measurement data at 5.8 GHz. The measurement data were collected by a testbed channel, which links with the following scenarios: a single tree, a row of trees, a row of trees and a road, a row of trees, a road, and a building. These experiments were conducted at University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Skudai, Johor to represent the suburban environment. The links consist of pairs of transmitting and receiving antennas that deploy the path of a line of sight (LOS) and non-line of sight (NLOS) radio propagation wave networks. Based on the measurement data analysis, the general issue concerning the statistical probability distribution and the characteristics of LOS and NLOS are examined and discussed. Note that 5.8 GHz technology can be used in both LOS and NLOS scenarios, but its performance varies based on the presence of obstacles and signal propagation characteristics. Other prominent experimental analysis methods, such as hypothesis testing and goodness of fit tests, are implemented to consolidate the findings. The analysis found that the empirical probability density function of LOS and NLOS channels follows Gaussian, Rayleigh, and Rician distribution. Predicting specific future technological developments, such as the availability of 5.8 GHz technology, is challenging because it depends on various factors, including research and development efforts, regulatory decisions, market demand, and technological advancements.

Analysis of 5.8 GHz Network for Line of Sight (LOS) and Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) in Suburban Environment

In this study, we prepared a series of ZnS/graphitic-C3N4 nanocomposites in various mass percentages and morphological properties of all the nanocomposites were examined by utilizing SEM/EDX technique. The photocatalytic performances of ZnS/graphitic-C3N4 nanocomposites were evaluated by degradation of Rhodamine B molecules under visible light. The photocatalytic performances of all nanocomposites under various photocatalyst dosages and initial Rhodamine B concentrations were further investigated for determination of optimal conditions.the obtained results indicated that ZnS/graphitic-C3N4 nanocomposites show almost 2 times higher photocatalaytic performances than pure graphitic-C3N4 and ZnS nanoparticles. The scavenger studies showed that the superoxide radicals had a major role in the photodegradation and the photodegradation of Rhodamine B follows the pseudo-first-order kinetic. 

Photocatalytic Performances of ZnS/g-C3N4 Nanocomposites with Different Mass Ratios

Analyzing or probing a complex‐structured light field with a simple model to obtain its mode composition sequence and phase delays among eigenmodes is challenging. Currently, there are numerous methods for calculating the weight and analyzing the amplitude of structured light eigenmodes, particularly on orbital angular momentum light field. However, the complete mode spectrum decomposition including the eigenmodes’ indexes with the intensity coefficients and relatively phase delays still needs the comprehensive solution. In this work, the diffractive optical method to extract the complete information of complex‐structured light field composed by eigenmodes superimposed state is detailly designed and proved. Through the interference between the inverse conversion of eigenmodes in the Fourier domain, complete mode spectrum can be constructed with eigenmode ordinals, amplitude weight coefficients, and relative phases. To the best of the knowledge, this marks the inaugural use of a simple computational hologram method to fully decompose the mode spectrum information, thereby obtaining more crucial intrinsic information about the intermode phases without additional efforts. This approach on analyzation and description can serve as a vital general tool for analyzing the intensity, phase, and Poynting vector field of complex‐structured light fields. 

Complete Mode Spectrum Decomposition of Complex‐Structured Light by Computer‐Generated Holography

As a beam splitter, multi-value phase grating (MVPG) has a higher diffraction efficiency than the traditional Damman grating (DG) due to its increased number of phase values within one period of the grating. In this paper, two MVPGs are numerically designed within a 120 μm × 120 μm area, which generate 4 * 4 and 5 * 5 focal spot arrays in the far field. Both gratings are fabricated by direct laser writing (DLW) technology. Their diffraction efficiencies reach 68.58% and 63.4%, respectively. To compare, DGs with the same size and focal spot arrays are designed and fabricated, whose diffraction efficiencies are tested to be 29.55% and 35.04%, respectively. The results demonstrate the better optical properties of multi-value phase gratings and the capability of DLW in three-dimensional nano-scale diffractive optical element fabrication.

High Quality Factor Infrared Notch Filter with Compact Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Metamaterial Structure

Deep learning based signal processing technology has been applied in communication systems for enhancing information transmission performances, whose learning capability depends on the loss function using different normality tests. In this paper, we investigate the impacts of different normality test methods, including Jarque-Bera, Shapiro-Wilk, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling schemes, on the learning performance of the deep neural network used for the denoising and channel decoding. Explicitly, the Residual Shrink Convolutional Neural Network(RSCNN) is applied to increase the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), while the normality test is combined with the Mean Square Error(MSE) loss to keep the residual noise following Gaussian distribution. Besides, a weighting factor is added between two loss items to provide the overall normalization and prevent overpenalization of data with too much variance. Simulation results show that with the improved loss function, the transmission reliability performance can be enhanced, while the computational complexity of the deep learning network based on the non-parametric test is relatively higher.

Performance Analysis of Normality Test Loss for Intelligent RSCNN Denoiser Design With Application to Channel Decoding

We fabricate two kinds of 100% fill factor compound eye structures using direct laser writing, including conventional compound eyes (CVCEs) with the same focal length of each microlens unit, and specially designed confocal compound eyes (CFCEs). For CFCEs, the focal length of each microlens unit is determined by its position and is equal to the distance between the microlens unit and the image sensor. In this letter, the optical properties of CVCEs and CFCEs are tested and compared. It is found that compared with CVCEs, CFCEs can improve the focusing efficiency by about 7%, enlarge the imaging area by about 25%, and have better imaging quality at the edge of the field of view.
