Application of automation for in-line quality inspection, a zero-defect manufacturing approach

A virtual representation of a physical procedure or product is called digital twin which can enhance efficiency and reduce costs in manufacturing process. Utilizing the digital twin, production teams can examine various data sources and reduce the number of defective items to enhance production efficiency and decrease industrial downtime. Digital Twin can be utilized to visualize the asset, track changes, understand and optimize asset performance throughout the analysis of the product lifecycle. Also, the collected data from digital twin can provide the complete lifecycle of products and processes to optimize workflows of part production, manage supply chain, and manage product quality. The application of digital twin in smart manufacturing can reduce time to market by designing and evaluating the manufacturing processes in virtual environments before manufacture. Comprehensive simulation platforms can be presented using digital twins to simulate and evaluate product performances in terms of analysis and modification of produced parts. Commissioning time of a factory can also be significantly reduced by developing and optimizing the factory layout using the digital twin. Also, the productivity of part manufacturing can be enhanced by providing the predictive maintenance and data-driven root-cause analysis during part production process. In this paper, application of digital twin in smart manufacturing systems is reviewed to analyze and discuss the advantages and challenges of part production modification using the digital twin. So, the research field can advance by reading and evaluating previous papers in order to propose fresh concepts and approaches by using digital twins in smart manufacturing systems. 

Digital twin for smart manufacturing, A review

Manufacturers are increasingly aware of the importance of system resilience against unexpected disruptive occurrences, such as the recent global Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical wars in Europe. Meanwhile, Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) is recently envisioned as the Blockchain 3.0 stage, in which enabling DAO in the manufacturing domain could be a promising attempt and will lead to decentralized autonomous manufacturing. Blockchain-enabled smart contracts and decentralized applications have the characteristics of verifiability, decentralization, transparency, autonomy, and tamper-proofing, which can enable a mass individualization paradigm to realize the promising Industry 5.0 vision of resilience. DAO provides a probable manner to regulate cross-prosumer activities under the Industry 5.0 context. Inspired by this vision, our paper reviews the literature on Decentralized Manufacturing (DM) and Autonomous Manufacturing (AM). Then, these two streams of efforts are unified, and a manufacturing paradigm, named Decentralized Autonomous Manufacturing (DAM), is defined towards resilience in Industry 5.0. In this paper, a reference architecture of the DAM is given. Followed by a comprehensive investigation of the key enablers, challenges, and barriers in the implementation of DAM, based on the insights from this analysis, future research directions of DAM are highlighted. We believe that our effort can lay a foundation for positioning DAM in futuristic Industry 5.0 research and engineering practice.

Changes and improvements in Industry 5.0: A strategic approach to overcome the challenges of Industry 4.0

The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer (CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration (CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph (HIS) is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 Å; and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 Å with 0.024 Å pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 Å with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 Å. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere. In this paper, we present an overview of the CHASE mission including the scientific objectives, HIS instrument overview, data calibration flow, and first results of on-orbit observations.
