Parametric Local Metric Learning for Nearest Neighbor Classification
Jun Wang,Alexandros Kalousis,Adam Woznica +2 more
- 03 Dec 2012
TL;DR: In this article, a parametric local metric learning method is proposed to learn a smooth metric matrix function over the data manifold, using an approximation error bound of the metric matrix functions.

Learning Neighborhoods for Metric Learning
TL;DR: This work proposes a novel formulation of the metric learning problem in which, in addition to the metric, the target neighborhood relations are also learned in a two-step iterative approach, and provides evidence that learning the neighborhood relations does improve predictive performance.

Space-time local embeddings
Ke Sun,Jun Wang,Alexandres Kalousis,Stéphane Marchand-Maillet +3 more
- 07 Dec 2015
TL;DR: Empirical results on non-metric datasets show that more information can be preserved in space-time, and this concept is applied to manifold learning for preserving local information.

A metric learning perspective of SVM: on the relation of SVM and LMNN
TL;DR: It is shown that LMNN can be seen as learning a set of local SVM-like models in a quadratic space and a novel variant of SVMs, epsilon-SVM, is derived, to which LMNN is even more similar.

Factorizing LambdaMART for cold start recommendations
TL;DR: A novel algorithm, LambdaMART matrix factorization (LambdaMart-MF), that learns latent representations of users and items using gradient boosted trees and regularizes the learned latent representations so that they reflect the user and item manifolds.
