<h2>Summary</h2> The development of lithium-ion batteries for the integration of renewable energy generation and the widespread use of electric vehicles has been greatly hampered by the scarcity of Li-ions as a natural resource as well as the limitation of an energy density that almost reaches the threshold. Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs), working on the same rocking-chair principle, have gained increasing attention as a "beyond-Li-ion" battery technology due to the reduced economic cost and the promising potential for large-scale energy storage. Pursuing suitable electrode materials with low cost, good conductivity, high capacity, and high chemical and structural stabilities is always at the heart of rechargeable battery studies. In this review, we comprehensively review five types of anode electrodes for PIBs, including K-metal, intercalation, conversion, alloying, and conversion-alloying in terms of materials synthesis, electrochemical characters, and functional mechanisms. The most recent progress is summarized with a focus on specific challenges (the K dendrite issue, electrode structural instability, sluggish transfer kinetics, etc.) as well as the fundamental science behind related improvement strategies (host constructing, nanoarchitecture tailoring, composite constructing, built-in electric field introducing, etc.). Several possible topics for future research are suggested for going beyond existing technological bottlenecks and achieving desirable PIB anode functionality. 

Advanced anode materials for potassium batteries: Sorting out opportunities and challenges by potassium storage mechanisms

CoSn/Co3Sn2@C with nanocages structure is obtained via a facile coprecipitation method with polydopamine coating followed by an annealing procedure. Due to the uniform nanocages structure, CoSn/Co3Sn2@C moderates the volume fluctuation, ensures good infiltration with electrolyte, and provides more pathways for ions/electrons transport. Moreover, the introduction of carbon inhibits the agglomeration of Sn0 nanoparticles, improves electronic conductivity, and offers a buffer matrix to protect the nanocage structure from destructing. As lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) anode, this CoSn/Co3Sn2@C anode possesses 622.3 mAh g−1 after 300 cycles at 200 mA g−1 and 571.2 mAh g−1 for another 1600 cycles at 1000 mA g−1. CoSn/Co3Sn2@C can maintain a capacity of 791.1, 748.3, 678.4, 569.8, 461.0, and 367.0 mAh g−1 at 65, 130, 0260, 650, 1300, and 2600 mA g−1, respectively. For sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), the CoSn/Co3Sn2@C can attain a specific capacity of 290.2, 246.6, 205.1, 166.0, 142.3, and 124.1 mAh g−1 at 80, 160, 320, 800, 1600, and 3200 mA g−1, respectively. CoSn/Co3Sn2@C anode earns 171.9 mAh g−1 after 150 cycles at 1000 mA g−1. This design of strategy provides ideas for the fabrication of porous anode materials and will promote the development of LIBs and SIBs.

Zearalenone is a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species. It frequently contaminates cereals used for foods or animal feeds, especially deposited in crude corn oil. Certain amounts of zearalenone can be removed during refining processes. In this study, we studied the influence of activated carbon and six industial absorbents (zeolite, diatomite, attapulgite, perlite, montmorillonite and activated clay) on the elimination of zearalenone during bleaching process of corn oil and explored the absorption mechanism of activated carbon. Results showed that activated carbon had an excellent adsorption capacity of zearalenone compared with the other six industrial adsorbents. For activated carbon, a high removal rate of zearalenone (exceeding 83%) from heavily zearalenone-polluted corn oil was achieved and the removal rate of zearalenone was kept above 60% after five regeneration cycles. The research on the adsorption mechanism of activated carbon showed that Freundlich adsorption isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model could well described the adsorption process. The thermodynamic study demonstrated that adsorption process was spontaneous and exothermic. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy further revealed that activated carbon was effectively combined with zearalenone via π-π interaction. Thus, activated carbon is an efficient and suitable adsorbent to control the levels of zearalenone during bleaching process of corn oil. This study not only proposed a systematic research scheme for the mechanism study of activated carbon for the elimination of zearalenone in corn oil, but also provided the scientific basis for developing effective methods to eliminate zearalenone in refined vegetable oils.
