Glioblastoma (GB) (grade IV astrocytoma) is the most malignant type of primary brain tumor with a 16 months median survival time following diagnosis Despite increasing attention regarding the development of targeted therapies for GB that resulted in around 450 clinical trials currently undergoing, radiotherapy still remains the most clinically effective treatment for these patients Nevertheless, radiotherapy resistance (radioresistance) is commonly observed in GB patients leading to tumor recurrence and eventually patient death It is therefore essential to unravel the molecular mechanisms underpinning GB cell radioresistance in order to develop novel strategies and combinational therapies focused on enhancing tumor cell sensitivity to radiotherapy In this review, we present a comprehensive examination of the current literature regarding the role of hypoxia (O2 partial pressure less than 10 mmHg), a main GB microenvironmental factor, in radioresistance with the ultimate goal of identifying potential molecular markers and therapeutic targets to overcome this issue in the future

The outstretched applications of biosensors in diverse domains has become the reason for their attraction for scientific communities. Because they are analytical devices, they can detect both quantitative and qualitative biological components through the generation of detectable signals. In the recent past, biosensors witnessed significant changes and developments in their design as well as features. Nanotechnology has revolutionized sensing phenomena by increasing biodiagnostic capacity in terms of specificity, size, and cost, resulting in exceptional sensitivity and flexibility. The steep increase of non-communicable diseases across the world has emerged as a matter of concern. In parallel, the abrupt outbreak of communicable diseases poses a serious threat to mankind. For decreasing the morbidity and mortality associated with various communicable and non-communicable diseases, early detection and subsequent treatment are indispensable. Detection of different biological markers generates quantifiable signals that can be electrochemical, mass-based, optical, thermal, or piezoelectric. Speculating on the incumbent applicability and versatility of nano-biosensors in large disciplines, this review highlights different types of biosensors along with their components and detection mechanisms. Moreover, it deals with the current advancements made in biosensors and the applications of nano-biosensors in detection of various non-communicable and communicable diseases, as well as future prospects of nano-biosensors for diagnostics.

Advances into Understanding the Vital Role of the Mitochondrial Citrate Carrier (CIC) in Metabolic Diseases.

Objective. Adenocarcinoma with mixed subtypes (AM) is a histological classification based on the WHO classification. We aimed to compare the prognosis among AM, classic adenocarcinoma (CA), mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC), and signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) in early and advanced gastric cancer (EGC and AGC), respectively. Methods. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database was queried from 2001 to 2016. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to compare prognosis between AM and histologic subtypes of CA, SRCC, and MAC in ECG and ACG. A nomogram was established to predict the cancer-specific survival (CSS) of gastric cancer (GC) patients with AM. C-index, calibration curves, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) curves were applied to examine the accuracy and clinical benefits. Results. In the prognosis among these four histological subtypes in EGC patients, there are no differences. For AGC patients, AM had a significantly poorer prognosis compared with CA and MAC ( , 0.029) but similar prognosis to SRCC. A nomogram based on race, T stage, N stage, M stage, and surgical modalities was proposed to predict 1- and 3-year CSS for GC patients with AM (C-index: training cohort: 0.804, validation cohort: 0.748. 1- and 3-year CSS AUC: training cohort: 0.871 and 0.914, validation cohort: 0.810 and 0.798). 1- and 3-year CSS DCA curves showed good net benefits. Conclusions. EGC patients with AM had similar survival to those with CA, MAC, and SRCC. AM was an independent predictor of poor prognosis in AGC. A nomogram for predicting the prognosis of GC patients with AM was proposed to quantitatively assess the long-term survival.
