The present invention relates generally to the field of vital signs monitors, and particularly to a device and system for monitoring of the vital signs of a plurality of patients simultaneously yet independently. The health monitoring system includes a medical signal processor which communicates with a wireless or Bluetooth distributed sensor system. The health monitoring system includes the patient data collection system coupled to a communications network for transmission of patient health data from a patient data collection system to a provider analysis system.

A modular microfluidic system is provided, which includes an individual microfluidic module that can be coupled to and decoupled from a socket. The socket can be coupled to a fluid source and electrical circuitry. A fluid interface between the socket and the module can allow fluid flow between the socket and the module. The module can include any number of wells or other microfluidic features. In some cases, the wells of the module can fit within corresponding recesses of the socket. In some cases, an optional electrical interface may provide electrical connection between the socket and the module. In some cases, the electrical circuitry is coupled to electrodes within the socket, such as electrodes positioned adjacent recesses. The module is designed for easy removal from and placement on the socket, allowing assays to be rapidly deployed, moved, and removed. The system can be especially useful for research associated with organoids such as minibrains and cerebral organoids, dynamic cell cultures, and other microfluidic assays.

Modular Microfluidic Assay System

The present disclosure relates to a thermocycling unit for use with a conventional smartphone, as well as methods for the amplification of nucleic acid using the same. The thermocycling unit makes use of several built-in features of the smartphone and thus requires relatively little complexity on the thermocycling unit itself.

Smartphone PCR Device

A mobile, self contained molecular diagnostics system is provided with a microfluidic chip, detection apparatus and an integrated or wireless control interface and imager. The system provides automated sample preparation and rapid optical detection of multianalyte nucleic acids and proteins. On chip PCR may be performed to improve the optical fluorescence signal for nucleic acid detections. Plasmonic protein detection is performed using a dark field smartphone microscope. Dark field illumination is based on an evanescent field generated by LED total internal reflection. The smartphone element may also be used as an interface to control the detection apparatus, acquire images, process data and for wireless communications with remote computers. The handheld automated system has low power requirements and is particularly suited for point of care and on demand diagnostics in resource limited settings.
