Techniques for facilitating interaction with an application in a motion capture system allow a person to easily begin interacting without manual setup. A depth camera system tracks a person in physical space and evaluates the person's intent to engage with the application. Factors such as location, stance, movement and voice data can be evaluated. Absolute location in a field of view of the depth camera, and location relative to another person, can be evaluated. Stance can include facing a depth camera, indicating a willingness to interact. Movements can include moving toward or away from a central area in the physical space, walking through the field of view, and movements which occur while standing generally in one location, such as moving one's arms around, gesturing, or shifting weight from one foot to another. Voice data can include volume as well as words which are detected by speech recognition.

Recognizing user intent in motion capture system

Documents are grouped into a plurality of subjects. For documents associated with each subject, a document hierarchy is established that includes a plurality of hierarchical levels. A three-dimensional landscape defined by x, y and z orthogonal axes is displayed on a screen, and a plurality of document stacks are arranged in the landscape. Each document stack in the landscape corresponds to a subject, and has a plurality of layers arranged perpendicular to the length of the stack. Each layer in each document stack corresponds to one of the hierarchical levels of the hierarchy established for the subject corresponding to the stack. Images representing documents assigned to each level of the hierarchy are displayed in the layer of the stack corresponding to such level. A user navigates among the document images displayed in the landscape using a cursor.

We present Qibo, a new open-source software for fast evaluation of quantum circuits and adiabatic evolution which takes full advantage of hardware accelerators. The growing interest in quantum computing and the recent developments of quantum hardware devices motivates the development of new advanced computational tools focused on performance and usage simplicity. In this work we introduce a new quantum simulation framework that enables developers to delegate all complicated aspects of hardware or platform implementation to the library so they can focus on the problem and quantum algorithms at hand. This software is designed from scratch with simulation performance, code simplicity and user friendly interface as target goals. It takes advantage of hardware acceleration such as multi-threading CPU, single GPU and multi-GPU devices.

Enables efficient correction of topological consistency of an input three-dimensional shape approximated in a spatial graph. Structured mesh generation systems of the present invention include: a topology determination apparatus for reading shape data from a shape data storage device to determine topological consistency and outputting data for solving a problem about topological consistency; a decomposable shape generation apparatus for reading the data outputted by the topology determination apparatus, changing a constraint condition of an integer programming problem solver to execute a shape correction process and outputting corrected shape data; and a structured mesh generation apparatus for reading the corrected shape data to generate a structured mesh.

Quantum computing simulation on a classical computer is difficult due to the exponential runtime and memory overhead. Previous work addresses the difficulty by utilizing multiple Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) and multi-node computers. GPUs are efficient for handling runtime issues but have limited total accessible memory space. Meanwhile, the memory of a multi-node computer can be scaled to the petabytes order, but its bandwidth for access from host computers (CPUs) is narrow. To simultaneously accelerate simulation and enlarge the total memory space, we propose a heterogeneous parallelization approach by combining GPUs and CPUs. Our simulator allocates memory to the GPUs first, and then to the CPUs. It thus accelerates simulation by using the full capabilities of the GPUs if memory for the simulation fits in the GPUs on a cluster. Allocating memory to the CPUs reduces benefits of the GPUs but enlarges the capacity of qubits in the simulation. In such case, it can exploit the memory of the GPUs to add one more qubit in the simulation if the size of memory in a node is the power of two (such as 512GB). We show empirical performance evaluations of our simulator in a distributed environment of POWER9.

A graphics image for hierarchical graph data is generated in order beginning with the topmost level. When a sub-graph for a specific level is generated, and then a sub-graph for a lower level for a specific node in this sub-graph is generated, the size of the node for which the lower sub-graph is generated is changed so that the lower sub-graph is included in this node. Further, nodes near the node for which the size has been changed are moved, so that these nodes do not interfere with the sub-graph for the lower level.

We describe our experience on the multipurpose C++ code IroIro++ designed for JLQCD to run on the BG/Q installation at KEK. We discuss some details on the performance improvements specific for the IBM Blue Gene Q.

A method for supporting communication among avatars representing users in a virtual world shared by a plurality of users' client terminals and a server connected with each other through a network. The method includes the steps of: accumulating statistical information, which includes (i) a combination of a component of a message transmitted by one or more avatars and avatar motion matching the component, and (ii) a degree of usage of the combination; generating a keyword group from the components of a message transmitted by the one or more avatars in response to the transmission of the message; searching through the statistical information; obtaining one or more avatar motion candidates; and presenting the candidates to the user of the avatar. A system for supporting communication among avatars and a communication support server device in a virtual world are also provided.
